Session 12: God's Dream for the World
Bible Passage
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away." And the one who was seated on the throne said, "See, I am making all things new." Also he said, "Write this, for these words are trustworthy and true." Revelation 21:1-5
Let's Pray -- Guided Imagery
- Sit comfortably with your eyes closed. Breathe deeply.
- Listen to the silence. Ask God to be present in the silence and to direct your way.
- In the silence, listen for God's voice calling you to go. Follow that voice.
- Imagine that you are walking along a path that leads to the holy city, the new Jerusalem. You go further and further along the path, directed by the voice.
- Where does the path lead you? What do you see? Where are you headed? Keep walking.
- What are you feeling as you walk through this new land?
- What is God saying? Keep listening.
- Slowly release the image of the voice and the walk. Open your eyes and come back to the present.
Closing Prayer
God, the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, we dream of the time when your kingdom comes on this earth, offering peace and justice and love to people of all nations. Lead us along the path toward your kingdom, that we might do your work in the world. We pray in the strong name of Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen. |
