Doing What Matters

Doing What Matters Symbol

Attendees at "Doing What Matters" Event in Newington, N.H. describe it as "Enlightening, Entertaining and Inspiring."

More than 60 attendees representing ELCA congregations from N.H., M.E. and Mass attended the "Doing What Matters" event at Holy Trinity, Newington, NH. They enjoyed great conversation, inspiring leadership, lots of laughs, and delicious Indonesian food while learning more about "doing what matters to God."

"The program proved to be enlightening, entertaining, inspiring, and rewarding."

"The diversity in the churches represented - location, size, and mission - made for valuable exchanges and new perspectives."

Mediation Skills Workshop To Be Held at

Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Manchester, N.H.

May 2-6, 2011

Conflict is an inevitable part of life...even for churches. Through its Mediation Skills Training Institute, the renowned Lombard Mennonite Peace Center has trained hundreds of church leaders in the skills that are needed to function effectively in conflict situations  During the intensive, five-day workshop at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, participants will learn:

· The biblical foundations for finding renewal in conflict.

· Individual styles of response to conflict.

· Win-win negotiation skills.

· Skills to mediate conflict between individuals.

· Tools to effectively manage congregational conflict.

· Skills for serving as an outside consultant to conflicted congregations.

A year ago, more than a dozen clergy and lay leaders from the New England Synod attended the Mediation Skills Workshop in Hartford, Conn. It became the springboard for "Listening Teams," a new ministry of the synod to help churches identify and manage conflict as a way to move toward renewal and growth. If you are interested in learning how to mediate so that you can help those facing congregational conflict, you are strongly urged to attend this event.
