New England Synod
NES NEWS
Welcome to NES News

Welcome to the first edition of "NES News"! In this weekly online publication, we will be using the email marketing tools and other resources of Constant Contact to bring you the latest news, stories and developments from the New England Synod. While the content will vary fom week too week, we plan to provide articles in the following general categories: Churchwide News, Conference Events, Synod Assembly, Lutheran Social Services, Mission Initiatives, Doing What Matters, and Camp Calumet. Feature stories covering such topical issues as immigration and human trafficking will be balanced by inspirational - and occasionally light-hearted - articles about what's going on "Around the Synod."  FYI will not be replaced by NES News. Instead, it will be used for only the most urgent of Synod matters. We hope you will look forward to reading NES News each week, and we look forward to your feedback!

Workshop on immigration and the church March 11 in Worcester

An important workshop for clergy and lay leaders, "Immigration, the Church and the Bible," will be held Friday, March 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, 114 Main St., Worcester, Mass.  Keynote is M. Daniel Carroll R. (Rodas), distinguished professor of Old Testament at Denver (Colo.) Seminary and author of "Christians at the Border: Immigration, the Church and the Bible." Carroll writes, "If Christians want to address the problems of immigration ... and contribute to possible solutions, then they should do so consciously as Christians and more specifically as biblically informed Christians." Cost of registration is $20, which includes lunch and a copy of "Strangers in the Land," the six-week devotional guide on immigration from the editors of Sojourners, a network of Christians in the United States focused on the biblical call to social justice.  Cost for a pastor and one layperson from the same congregation is $30. For more information, contact www.ctchurches.org or 860-560-0125. Bishop Margaret G. Payne enthusiastically supports this event.  "Carroll is a phenomenal speaker and this is a critically important issue for us to consider," she said.
