Changes at the Top

Effective January 1, 2012, Phil Warth is now chairman and CEO of Mutual Insurers Holding Company, the parent company of First Nonprofit Insurance Company.

In his 20 years as CEO of First Nonprofit, Warth oversaw the expansion of the First Nonprofit family of companies--among them First Nonprofit Companies, a nationwide alternative unemployment tax solution for nonprofits; First Nonprofit Insurance Agency, a wholly-owned brokerage offering property and casualty, life, health, and accident; the 501(c)(3) First Nonprofit Foundation; and Human Services Company, a wholly owned subsidiary providing program administration and financial consulting services to nonprofits.

Warth is confident in FNIC's strength and future. "First Nonprofit's knowledge of nonprofit operations is unmatched," he said. "Decades of working exclusively with this customer has elevated us to a unique position of strength and understanding that will be capitalized on in 2012 and beyond."

Bob White, former senior vice president, has assumed the role of CEO of FNIC. He is charged with continuing First Nonprofit's expansion into new states, completing upgrades to the company's technology, and fully integrating its risk management and underwriting activities.

David Turner is a new addition to the First Nonprofit executive team. He has been appointed executive vice president and brings 35 years of insurance, global risk management, and real estate experience.

These changes signal a new direction for First Nonprofit. We're happy to partner with you, our agents and brokers, for the exciting developments ahead.

Be More Effective at Trade Shows

The time, the money, the hassle: Are nonprofit shows really worth it? The answer is "yes," if you take time to plan for success.

Send custom announcements to attendees

The trade show registration fee buys you not only a space for your booth, but also a mailing list of attendees. Use this list to mail postcards or send an e-blast with your booth number, agency name, and contact detail to attendees. It's a great way to let potential clients know who you are and what you offer. The First Nonprofit Marketing department is glad to help our trusted agency partners reach out to local nonprofits. Contact your territory representative for details on co-branding opportunities.

Think like a nonprofit

You know the usual questions, but are your answers clear and compelling. What does a nonprofit look for in a good insurance agent or broker? What information do they want from carriers? What can you offer them that's new and needed? These are just a few questions to consider before you attend a show.

Follow up with leads

According to the Center for Exhibition Industry Research, 80% of show leads do not receive any type of follow-up. A simple post-event phone call or email will distinguish you as someone who is thorough and professional.

Meet a First Nonprofiteer

Kathy Szur is vice president of the Western region and she has big plans for spreading the First Nonprofit name in her territory. "I love being on the forefront of growing a new region," Kathy says.

One big goal for 2012 is building a strong and cohesive team. Kathy is uniquely poised for success with her broad experience in the insurance sector and her nonprofit inroads. She serves on the board of a local social service agency, among many other nonprofit activities.

Kathy came to First Nonprofit five years ago from CNA, where she served as vice president of underwriting and programs. She sits on the board of Gabriel's Angels, a 501(c)(3) that delivers pet therapy to at-risk children. A New Jersey native, she has had little trouble adapting to the warm climate of FNIC's Phoenix office.

The entire Western region team is ready to talk with agents about building your business. Contact Kathy anytime at KSzur@firstnonprofit.com or 602.396.4414.
