Custom Training Eliminates Allegations of Bullying
One of our policyholders, a large social service agency, offers a recreation program for about 500-600 children at a time each summer in a wooded camp setting. In 2009 this agency had two incidents of alleged bullying in just one summer season. It was an unsettling trend. This nonprofit agency asked First Nonprofit to help them prevent such incidents in the future.

Risk Management VP Bob Arends reviewed the details of each incident with the camp director and discussed the organization's needs. The summer recreation program hires temporary staff. Closer analysis revealed that though the staff receives in-depth training, this training does not include how to deal with bullying.

Working with the camp director, Bob Arends created a bullying prevention training program that was quickly adopted and integrated into the 2010 pre-season summer staff training.

First Nonprofit was able to respond to the agency's need with a specific and highly effective solution to a growing concern. The nonprofit organization was happy and relieved to report no incidents or allegations of bullying during the summer of 2010.

Helpful Winter Driving Tips
Beware of black ice and slippery driving conditions caused by blowing snow. Allow more time and distance for stopping. Slow down, especially on turns and curves.

Clean windshields, headlights, and taillights each time you fill up at a gas station. Check your windshield wiper fluid often; keep the reservoir filled. Make sure wipers are in good condition. And don't use windshield wipers to remove ice from windshields. This practice may cause
severe damage to the wiper blade motor.

Remove snow and ice from shoes and boots to help prevent your foot slipping off the brake pedal. Also, keep tires properly inflated. Temperature changes cause air to leak out, which can reduce steering control.

Watch out for dirty, salt-covered cars. They are more difficult to spot on the road. Keep your car clean so other drivers can see you.

Be alert for bundled-up pedestrians, especially those with covered faces and ears. They may not hear or see you coming.
