STUDENTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
This past Sunday French students Carly McGuire, Max Power, Patrick McGuire, David Keller and Connor Hines attended the Haitian Mass at St. Matthias. The mass is offered in Creole French. Pictured right are David and Connor with the celebrating priest. A special thanks to St. Matthias for participating in the coupon drive with our French Club as well!

The students of Italian IV visited the Foreign Language Center at the Ohio State University on March 15. They had the opportunity to tour the center and to take a practice placement exam. The results of the exam indicated which level each would begin to study Italian at the university level. It was a positive experience, as each of the students that took the exam "placed" into an upper level. Molto bravi! Pictured below are Sami Byrne, Mary-Kate Viola, and Dominic DelMonte.

This past weekend, the DeSales Choral Program received excellent and superior ratings at the Ohio Music Education Association's Large Group Adjudicated Event. The Select Mixed Ensemble did a truly outstanding job of representing the Fine Arts Department and the school as a whole.

Congratulations to senior Sophia Nnadi (right on the top of the podium) on WINNING the State Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Shot Put last Saturday at the University of Akron. Sophia went from 6th place in the finals to first place with a personal best throw of 40 feet and 11 inches.

Mrs. Zacharias' Industrial Design and Construction Technology courses went to the Columbus Auto Show last Friday. The students were required to observe the exterior, interior, color and trim, and graphic design of various vehicles and record their observations. The Industrial Design courses will be tackling the enormous challenge of designing automobiles using CADD (Computer Aided Drafting & Design). The most memorable moments happened when Chad Janszen won money in a contest, and the students got the chance to sit in new vehicles. Some of the favorite vehicles were the Lotus, Lamborghini, and Maserati. When asked what was most important when purchasing a vehicle, the students answered: Performance/ Driving Abilities, Exterior Design, and Insurance cost.

Snapshot of Success!
Patrick Young '65
President
Furniture Home Stores

Pat is currently retired and living in Placentia, California. He earned a degree in Business Administration in Economics from The Ohio State University and immediately started out in the retail lumber business, becoming a buyer for the largest lumber company in the world at the age of 22. After a career spanning many years at several different companies in the home improvement and furniture business, he ultimately started his own company with a small group of partners. This provided the opportunity to create a business from scratch and see it grow to over $20 million in sales in the first three years of operation.

He served as President of Furniture Home Stores of Southern California, Inc., during this phenomenal growth. However, during this same period of exciting business growth, Pat suffered a very serious bout with cancer that required extensive surgery and rehabilitation.

As a cancer survivor who overcame an especially difficult diagnosis, he credits his unwavering faith in God and the support and prayers of family and friends in carrying him through that incredible challenge. As a result of his experience, Pat has worked extensively with the City of Hope in fund raising efforts. The City of Hope is a comprehensive cancer center in Los Angeles that is recognized for its innovative research and therapies in fighting cancer.
