"Anything Goes" at DeSales!
The entire action of "Anything Goes" takes place aboard the "S.S. American", a luxury liner sailing from New York to England in the 1930's.  Once on board, the audience is introduced to a cast of colorful characters that are sure to keep them entertained throughout the performance.
The show runs March 23, 24, 30 and 31 at 7:00pm in the DeSales Little Theater.  Tickets will be sold beginning March 12 during all lunch periods (10:20 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.) and at the door throughout the run of the show.  All seats are reserved.  Tickets are $10.00.
Congratulations to the Girls Basketball Team!

The DeSales Varsity Girls Basketball Team won the CCL for the first time since 2006. The girls were 17-8 overall, with a 6-2 record in the CCL, and beat Watterson twice during the regular season, both by double digits. The girls team also won a District title for only the fourth time in school history, by defeating Licking Valley 44-23.

From the Desk of Mr. Garrick...

Dear Fellow Alumnus/ae:

I hope this edition of the E-Stampede finds you and your family doing well. It is hard to imagine that we are less than a week away from the "official" start of Spring; however, the past two weeks have provided us with incredible weather. I am hopeful that you have been able to take advantage of these beautiful days by spending some time outdoors.

I must say that the brightness of the sun and the extra warmth has provided a nice sense of energy to our school community as we approach the close of our Third Academic term. The St. Francis DeSales High School students and staff have been very busy with their academic obligations.   More importantly, as a faith community we have been actively participating in our Lenten journey. We have already been provided with opportunities to pray, fast, and to give alms as we anticipate the celebration of Easter which marks the resurrection of Jesus.

As people of faith we realize that it is through the gift of Christ's resurrection that we are given the opportunity to celebrate the awesome gift of life. It seems to me that when you combine the joy associated with Easter and the beauty and rebirth associated with Spring we are blessed with an affirmation of Christ's abundant love.

I think it important to note as the leader of this school that the energy associated with this time of the year is very positive and it provides us, as educators, with many chances to convey the Gospel messages that are fundamental to our faith. I am most pleased that our teachers do an outstanding job of seizing such teachable moments.

I am prayerful that during the remainder of your Lenten journey and Easter each of you will be graced with the peace and serenity to reflect on Christ's example of unconditional love. Christ's death and resurrection provides each of us with the gift of eternal life. During this solemn time of retreat and reflection please take the occasion to give thanks to God for his gifts of life and love.

In closing, find comfort in knowing that our community's prayers are with you and your family.   I humbly request that you take time to pray for those community intentions that are placed on our Lenten prayer cross, please keep in your prayers members of our Junior Class who will be involved with the Urban Plunge this coming week. May the peace and love of our Savior continue to accompany you and your families during this Holy Season of Lent.

Peace and God's Blessings,

A big thank you to alumni Joe Popp '99, Chris Julian '85, and Mary Lewis '04, for helping to prepare this years Mock Trial Team. Because of your hard work and assistance, the DeSales team advanced to the regional competition!

Dear Friends;

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to Mrs. Colleen (Cook) Herr '01 for her outstanding service to the Saint Francis DeSales High School Community in the capacity of Alumni Relations Director.

It has been gratifying for me to witness Mrs. Herr take a brand new position and to largely define it. As a result of Colleen's dedicated efforts the office of Alumni Relations is now a critical part of our school's structure. I frequently tell our students that the true definition of success is to leave a situation or place better than you found it. With this in mind I can say that Colleen was a true success.

As Colleen looks to embark on a new challenge with her college Alma Mater we wish her well. On behalf of the entire Saint Francis DeSales High School family, most especially our beloved alumni thanks again to our dear friend and colleague.

Peace and God's Blessings,

Dan Garrick '79

Alumni Spotlight

Kasey Kincaid Fiorini '01
Resident Physician
University of North Carolina Hospitals

When she began her freshman year at the University of Notre Dame, Kasey was uncertain about her future career plans and entered a program called "Arts and Letters Pre-Professional Studies" with a major in philosophy. She particularly enjoyed classes in organic chemistry and human physiology. "I remember the day we learned the
pathophysiology of myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease. There is a very logical connection between these patients' abnormal physiology and the symptoms they experience. That was when I knew medical school was the right path for me," Kasey says.

Kasey attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati. She completed a research project at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center entitled "A Regional Collaborative to Reduce Surgical Site Infections". She is currently a resident in anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, where she is involved with medical student education as well as resident recruitment.

As an anesthesiologist, Kasey keeps patients safe and comfortable during surgery. She has the privilege of forming brief but important relationships with her patients prior to surgery; these range from premature infants to the elderly.

Kasey currently resides in Durham, North Carolina with her husband, Matt, and dog Riley.
