Last week, the Marketing class took a field trip to Nationwide Arena to listen to the marketing personnel of the Columbus Blue Jackets. The class heard from three Blue Jackets marketing employees and were given a behind the scene look at Nationwide Arena. All three Blue Jackets employees stressed the importance of internships which can lead to full time employment. A great tip for all our students!
Italian club members attended the opera presentation of Don Giovanni performed by Toronto-based Opera Atelier at the Southern Theater last Sunday. Pictured are senior Renee Landis, junior Angela Patton, and freshmen Gabriella Marino and Iris Hanes. The st udents were accompanied by various family members, as well as faculty members Mr. Ruppel, Ms. Arnett, and Mrs. Iacobone. The performance was very entertaining and the Italian students were able to hear an entire production sung in Italian.
Hallmark artist Bob Holt stopped in to visit with students (and his sister-in-law Mrs. Aumiller) last week to tell them a little about his job at Hallmark and how he created Hoops and Yo-Yo. Students filled the Media Center to learn more about his career and what opportunities are available to them in the workforce. Right: Students with Bob after his presentation.

 | Hosting a Current Exchange Student
| | A St. Francis DeSales High School foreign exchange student requires a new placement for 2nd Semester beginning January and departing in June. The current host family was able to commit for the first semester only, now requiring a new placement. This is a great opportunity if you had previously thought about hosting but the year program was too long. The student is in good standing with his international exchange program, is academically sound, enjoyed by his current host family, and well respected by the faculty and staff. Some of his interests include soccer, body building, sporting events, computers, current events, cooking and travel, among others. For further information please
contact assistant principal Mr. Jim Jones at 614-267-7808, or contact exchange student representative, Cecilia Balogh at 740-502-2467. |

| Celebrating National French Week
| | Students and faculty members helped celebrate National French Week...
Principal Dan Garrick and World and European History teacher Steve Ulry gave a presentation to the French II students on the DeSales 2010 trip to France (the trip included a stay in England as well, but the pres entation focused on the sites and cites in France). Rachel Beidler, Lauren Asman and Mack Beidler also gave presentations to their classes on their own personal trips to France.
Over 25 students attended the French Club Cre'pe and Movie Party, bringing students taking French and many who are not together for a fun afternoon. Some of those students are pictured here as they also celebrate two birthdays: French club member Logan Teague and the club's president Brittany Thomas.
The French National Honor Society held a bake sale, with proceeds to help purchase honor cords for graduation. Pictured below: A line of students gather to purchase the goodies.
Also during National French Week, Kyra Hess and Sophia Nnadi led the Lord's Prayer in French, and Jake Mulligan, Nick Myers, Ben Risinger and East O'Donovan le d the Glory Be during morning prayer.
French III, IV, IV, V presented cultural vignettes in class, with students learning about French songs and music, etiquette, dance, fashion, the French Foreign Legion and much more, including how to play games like Escargot, the French version of hop-scotch, which takes after its name and is played in the shape of a snail.
It was a wonderful week of learning!
