By now you've heard about our efforts to address the long term needs of our 50 year old parish home through a Capital Campaign. Our Bishop has invited the Parishes to join with the Diocese in a collaborative venture called the Together Now Campaign. This is an effort both to build community as we strengthen our faith and to raise money as a tangible commitment to our ministries together. Your vestry has expressed its overwhelming support for the campaign.
We have visited a number of you already and we plan to personally visit, with an expanded number of volunteers, as many of you as we possibly can. When you receive a call from one of our volunteers, please invite them to meet with you so you can learn about the specific goals of our campaign.
The visits thus far have been extraordinarily rewarding. We have been so graciously received in your homes and you have shared with us what Saint Luke's has meant to you and your families. We have talked about our hopes and dreams for the future and about how resources are needed to continue to do those things we believe God is calling us to do. We think of the choir, of the church school that is bursting with energy and excitement, about mission activities in which our people are playing leadership roles, and about our worship together. But we see a building in need of some serious repairs that cannot be addressed in our annual operating budget. We see an original heating system that is in need of replacement. We see a rectory that needs work. We have heard feedback from you regarding the scope of our Capital Campaign, and have limited our scope to the capital investments that need to be made to maintain the facility we have now.
We are delighted to join with the Diocese in a collaborative campaign. We are so pleased that 10% of the Diocesan share will go to mission work outside the Diocese, and 20% will be available for grants to local parishes like Saint Luke's.
The goal for our campaign is $670,000. 75% of that, or approximately $500,000, will stay with Saint Luke's. The campaign is a five-year campaign. And we are thrilled that the generous members we have met with to date have so far pledged over $320,000 toward our goal!
We are grateful for the leadership, participation and support of Grant, our Rector, and Ray Low, our Rector Emeritus, in this campaign.
We ask you to meet with us, to share your thoughts with us, and then to prayerfully consider a gift to the campaign.
May the Lord be with you as we all seek to hear God's call together,
Garin Arevian, Capital Campaign Chairman
