Veteran's Day Project- Sun., Nov. 6
On Sunday, November 6th, the children of St. Luke's will be learning about Veteran's Day from some of our veterans during Sunday School. After hearing stories from our veterans, the children will work on centerpieces for the Veteran's Day celebration on November 11th. The children are also invited to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at the celebration, which begins promptly at 11 am at the GAR Hall, 353 Country Way, Scituate. Please join us in celebrating our veterans this November. Any questions, please see Joy Catron or Stacey Stratton.
Scavenger Hunt Success
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You did it again Youth Outreach! You stocked the food pantry again. Barbara Stieglitz said that this was the best gift the food pantry had received since our scavenger hunt last year. What an amazing accomplishment!

26 kids and 16 adults met up and set out across Scituate to gather food at over 35 houses. Once back at the pantry, we sorted and stocked the pantry. And this was all accomplished in just under 3 hours and after a pretty windy storm. Over 100 families from Scituate utilize the pantry on a monthly basis, and our donation will help many families have a Happy Thanksgiving.

A huge thank you to our chaperones: Kelly Arevian, Katrien Robinson, Karen Hirsch, Don Smith, David and Joy Catron, Mike McKinnon, Sandra Connolly, Jenn Penney, Beth and Paul Schwarz, John Foley, Janine Beal, Paula Jewell and Jeff Tyrcha.

A big round of applause to our kids: Rosemary Tyrcha, Sarah Tyrcha, Josh Hirsch, Spencer McKinnon, Garrett McKinnon, Lucy Smith, Ben Smith, Jacob Rollo, Sarah Catron, Zach Catron, Jackson Schwarz, Sam Beal, Sarah Beal, George and Claire Crichfield, Jillian Robinson, Jason Robinson, Reed Connolly, Noel Connolly, Dylan Arevian, Jared Arevian, Evan Friedel, Matt Foiley, Madison Foley, Ruthie Penney and David Penney.

And a huge thank you to everyone who shopped and left food at their homes for us to hunt. Without that, the shelves would have been pretty bare. Can't wait to see what next year's hunt delivers!

Walking with Jesus- Youth Outreach
Our journeys to become closer with Jesus can start at anytime, in any place. Where are you in your spiritual journey?  I know that I am early on in my journey, even though my age may have many think that I should be further along. But people's journeys are at different paces.
For many of our youth, Outreach will be a starting point for their journey to Walk with Jesus. This year, we will be partnering with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization based in Nashville. Soles4Souls was created after the devastation of the tsunami in Southeast Asia and Hurricane Katrina. Wayne Elsey, a footwear exec, got together with other footwear companies and friends, and helped to deliver 13 million pairs of shoes to those affected by the natural disasters.
There are millions of people both domestically and internationally who have never known what it is like to walk to school, church, a neighbor's house, or a market with shoes on their feet. In many places, this can lead to injury, disease, or worse. How wonderful would it make you feel to change the world one pair of shoes at a time? How wonderful would it make you feel to offer someone hope that someone out there cares for them?
Youth Outreach hopes you would like to feel that special feeling of helping others a lot. We have set our goal high. Youth Outreach would like to raise $5000, which would equal 5000 pairs of shoes for 5000 people who need that hope, that love, and that knowledge of what it is like to Walk with Jesus.
We are asking the parishioners of St. Luke's (and your family and friends too) to help us meet our goal. We have come up with lots of ways you can help.

1. Visit our fundraising page to donate directly to Soles4Souls and watch our tally rise!:   http://www.soles4soulsfundraising.org/cgi-bin/view_profile.cgi?id=2299

2.Come to our bake sales on: November 20th during coffee hour and April 1, 2012 during coffee hour

3. Take the challenge of going barefoot during church service or Sunday School by paying a dollar to participate....dates and more info TBA.

4. And many more exciting ideas to come - stay tuned!

But this year's youth outreach effort is not just about raising money for shoes. It is about teaching the children what "Walking with Jesus" is really about and how it can be a part of their daily lives, and how they can share it with others. On Outreach Sundays, the children will be learning about how they can start or continue their journey with Jesus, and how their journeys might even intersect to do an even greater good.

Thank you for supporting us in our journey, and we hope that you will join us on your journey as we all Walk with Jesus!
