Harvest Fair Gift Baskets
There is still time to help and we need you!
Monday, October 31 - Wednesday, November 2- (St. Luke's Saints Week!- Due to Halloween we will stop the process at 4 PM - Happy Haunting!) DECORATING MANIA thrives here! This is the fun part! Please share the "pretty part" of the process and help with the bows, decorations and tags. All baskets must be completed by Wednesday evening for pricing on Thursday. Pat Karsch has been responsible for our tags that accompany each basket and if you have nice penmanship- I know she would love some help! November 3- MOVING AND PRICING DAY! Can a few hardy folk come around 9 AM to help bring the (now beautiful) baskets down to Dutton Hall for the last time? The baskets will then be sorted, priced and put into a classroom until Dutton Hall is transformed into our FAIR space. The choir can have their room tonight for practice!
This sounds like a lot of work and it is. Any time you can give will make the difference! Please come when you can - leave when you must!
Any questions? Call Cheryl O'Grady at 508-209-3308 or 508-989-3739 or email at jogrady191@aol.com

The Rev. Joyce Mack Scheyer

I am delighted to join St Luke's to help expand the program for youth, families, and church school. I am honored to work with such an experienced and dedicated Christian Education team. I welcome all of your energy and spiritual gifts as we chart this course along the exciting path that God calls us to explore as a congregation. I feel blessed to be in your midst for these next three years and perhaps longer. As we prepare to grow and share a new vision of lifelong Christian Education embracing parents, children, and youth I recall God's message in Isaiah 43:19 "Behold I am about to do a new thing" ... read more

It Just Seemed Natural
For 40 years, St. Luke's has been ministering at the Life Care Center in Scituate providing a Sunday service for the residents. We have had to reduce our commitment to once a month due to a lack of volunteers. Please take a moment to read Judy McGreenery's witness below and consider joining in this wonderful ministry.
When we lived in Needham, we had a multi-family house on one of the main streets. We eventually brought our elderly parents to live with us for 13 years. Paul's mother and father and my mother. They were in their 80's and 90's. (Honor your father and your mother - Exodus 20:12.)
I remember one day when I was cutting the grass on the front lawn, a neighbor stopped and asked if the house had become a nursing home. I asked her why she thought so, and she replied that she often times saw three elderly people sitting on the front porch. I told her those were our parents! (John 19:26, 27) Even though they used canes, walkers, an electric chairlift and wheelchairs, they would make their way out to the porch to watch the "world go by" in the nice weather.
During this time period, I volunteered at Christ Church, Needham to visit the elderly in their homes and nursing homes and to administer communion to them. I quickly found out that they gave me back more than I could ever give to them.
When I recently volunteered to assist at the Life Care Center church service conducted by St. Luke's, it just seemed natural to once again be a part of their lives. We conduct the church service, but they actually administer to us by their presence. As I look at these residents, I often think that each one of them has a life story to tell if they could. They are now in a new phase of their lives, taking on the challenge of living out their lives. I hope some day I will have the strength and courage to do just that. In being with them, we try to give them the "Fruit of the Spirit": love, joy, patience, kindness, gentleness and compassion (Gal. 5:22), but they actually in turn give it to us and we are very grateful for their presence. Community Dinner challenges you to go Global!

We have set up a free game account at www.freerice.com. This is an online quiz that anyone can play. The site challenges you to answer to answer a bunch of vocabulary questions. The questions start very easy and increase in difficulty the further you go. Father Grant says he can get to level 52 - which is not the top....
For every correct answer the United Nations Food Fund will donate 10 grains of rice to feed the world. 20,000 grains of rice will feed a person for a day. It's absolutely free, you can't lose rice you've won and if vocabulary isn't your thing they have added other subjects such as the arts, literature, math, sciences and even foreign languages. Our collective account allows multiple users at anytime. To start log onto www.freerice.com user name: Saint Luke's Cares password: Scituate. Our goal is donate 1 million grains of rice!!
