Youth Outreach Event- Not Just for the Youth
As part of their on-going effort to support the Scituate Food Pantry our 3rd -6th graders will participate in our 4th Annual SFP Scavenger Hunt on Sunday, Oct. 30th from 12PM - 3 PM. The children will set out in teams from The Scituate Food Pantry located at the Masonic Temple on Country Way and collect specific food items. Once all their items are collected they will meet back at the SSF to organize the food, fill the shelves and have a snack. Wondering where they will collect the food? From you, we hope. Each group will have a list of parishioners who have agreed to be a "pick-up" location. Only one team will be sent your way. Lists of items they are looking for are in the Narthex. We had a lot of fun the last 3 years and gathered an amazing amount of food. This requires a lot of organization and we hope you will participate. So if you are: *A 3rd- 6th grader who wants to play *An adult who would like to drive or *A parishioner who would agree to be a "pick-up" location
Please sign up in the Narthex or contact Stacey Stratton at stacey762@gmail.com or 781-837-6856 by Tuesday, October 25th. |

Harvest Fair- November 5th

The Fair will be held on the 5th of November this year. I hope that everyone is working on what they will be able to contribute to the Fair this year - time .. talent .. treasure. We need all of it. The Fair is one of our largest fundraisers for the church. It is also one of the most fun times that we all have together. Please consider helping in some way. Come meet and work with old friends and meet some new ones. More than anything we would like it to be a fun time for all.
The Silent Auction needs your items, ideas of what you want to give or talents you can share. Tutoring or doing a service or giving a cord of wood, might work. There are so many different kinds of options and all are welcome. Please call Christine Hudanich at 781-987-1620 about your contribution as soon as possible. In order to get a really nice write up of your item she needs some time to work on them.
The Basket Table has a notice that you can pick up in the Narthex along with a basket to fill.
The Craft Table is looking for hand made items and Christmas ornaments. They meet on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm to work on projects. Wooden bird houses would be nice, along with other home decorations.
The White Elephant Table will be taking donations starting on the 15th of October. They are looking for all types of household items that are in good condition. (No electrical items.) Glassware, china, decorations, holiday items, silverware and such are great.
The Grey Elephant Table is located outside and will take the items that are not "classy" enough for the White Elephant area. Single coffee mugs .. the odd cup and saucer.. the five plates - one broke and small electrical things that are in excellent working order can go in this area.
The Book Table will be able to take your contributions also starting on the 15th of October. They love hard and soft cover books, dvd's - movies or games.
Someone will be making phone calls to all of the parishioners regarding what they might be able to contribute or do for the fair. At that time it would be nice if you could say that you would be able to bake something for the Bake Table and make a couple of dozen cookies for the Cookie Bake Shop. Both areas depend on the items that you can make.
The Sewing and Knitting Table needs items such as mittens, sweaters, aprons, quilts, scarves, etc. Please call Joan Powers (781-545-9650) if you have something that you would like to donate.
The Pet Boutique would like items that would be enjoyed by our furry friends. Baked treats are one good option. Sweaters or coats also work well.
The Children's Area is outside, so they are hoping for donations of bikes, strollers, backpacks and all types of items related to children. They especially like children's books and toys - in good condition. They will also start taking donations on the 15th of October.
The Country Store ' employees' have been busy over the summer and now into the fall making jams and jellies. They always need more. Ideas would be candy and fudge or your favorite jam or canned tomatoes.
Maureen Keys (781-545-1348( and Susanna Dietz (781-545-6109) are again in charge of the Fair. If you need something picked up or want to give some suggestions or ideas please feel free to call. Sign up sheets for working on the tables will be located out in the Narthex table sometime in the next week or so. Please keep an eye out and sign up. We really depend on everyone's enthusiasm and support to put this together. Besides making and donating we need people to set up and take down, man the tables on Fair day and help with the parking areas. Thank you in advance for all that you do.

Taste of Scituate
Dear Saint Luke's Parishioners,
Saint Luke's is excited to announce our second annual Taste of Scituate. We have partnered again with dozens of local restaurants for this multi-day event, providing fun opportunities for families to explore the tastes of local restaurants, while at the same time supporting community service projects.
Throughout October, the 31-Day Giveaway, gives gift certificates each day valued at $50, $75 or $100 for a local restaurant.
Join us on November 13th for the Finale Gala for specialty samples from local restaurants and the Grand Prizes Raffle. Come taste a variety of great food, enjoy the fellowship, and win prizes. We encourage you to get involved and help us plan, set-up and run this community-wide event and help Saint Luke's shine.
Afterward, participate in The Scavenger Hunt and have fun exploring local restaurants, hunting for answers to puzzling questions, and increase your chances to win the Final Grand Prize.
Go online now and help show our sponsors that it is worth supporting the Taste of Scituate, and "Like" us on Facebook or "Follow" us on Twitter.
If you would like to help Saint Luke's support our Outreach Programs, please get involved, either a little or a lot. To find out how, or if you have any questions, please e-mail John Hudanich or call 781.234.8631.
THANKS & GOOD EATS!

Harvest Fair Gift Baskets
Many hands do make the workload light!
Due to the many and multiple uses of our parish areas, we will again use the choir room as our basket assembly space. To do this, we shorten the time allotted the assembly process and try to limit the time we displace our choir! The trick to making the process work is having all basket filler donations and volunteers ready to start on October 24th!
BASKET ASSEMBLY DATELINE Now- October 23- Gathering time! Please take an idea sheet and a basket (or two!) from the display in the Narthex or donate baskets yourself, have fun creating a theme and filler-up! (If filling a theme basket is not your thing, consider bringing a bag of food products or gift items that can be added to other baskets) No need to decorate the basket as the team will put the final touches together. Sunday, October 23- Bring all baskets, fillers and supplies to church. If you are not able to be at the services, I will be here most of the day setting up the work space, so come on down! We can only assemble that which is here, so this date is critical. Monday, October 24 thru Saturday October 29- ASSEMBLY TIME! Most days I am here 10 AM to 10 PM and we need as many volunteers as are able. Now is the time to have fun working on an assembly line! Sign up if you're available or just drop in. Sunday, October 30- 1 PM - 4 PM SHRINK WRAP SUNDAY! All baskets need to be brought from the choir room to Dutton Hall to be wrapped. No talent needed! Can you carry baskets down, work with a partner to wrap or help to carry the baskets back up to the choir room for their next step (decorating)? This step in the process must be completed in one session- please help! We need about 20 volunteers this afternoon. Monday, October 31 - Wednesday, November 2- (St. Luke's Saints Week!- Due to Halloween we will stop the process at 4 PM - Happy Haunting!) DECORATING MANIA thrives here! This is the fun part! Please share the "pretty part" of the process and help with the bows, decorations and tags. All baskets must be completed by Wednesday evening for pricing on Thursday. Pat Karsch has been responsible for our tags that accompany each basket and if you have nice penmanship- I know she would love some help! November 3- MOVING AND PRICING DAY! Can a few hardy folk come around 9 AM to help bring the (now beautiful) baskets down to Dutton Hall for the last time? The baskets will then be sorted, priced and put into a classroom until Dutton Hall is transformed into our FAIR space. The choir can have their room tonight for practice!
This sounds like a lot of work and it is. Any time you can give will make the difference! Please come when you can - leave when you must!
OTHER WAYS TO HELP! SUPPLIES LIST! BASKETS- Our supply is always in need of adding to. Bring in and leave in the Narthex or use yours to fill. CELLOPHANE WRAP- Needed! A $10 dollar roll at Michael's can be had for 40-50% off with a Sunday coupon. Last year we used 15 rolls. RIBBON- We use tons to decorate the baskets. Please buy wired 1 - 3 inch ribbons in all colors and themes. Fall and Christmas are popular, yet, half of our baskets are more general themes- think children, grandparent or shut ins, men, cooking, country ie. Irish or Italian, travel, pets or sports. We can use curling ribbon in all colors, too. FOOD PRODUCTS- All baskets have some sort of food in them. We need everything from candies and cookies to specialty products. Trader Joe's, Ocean State Job Lot, Christmas Tree Shop are gold mines for goodies as well as the specialty areas of grocery stores. Jams, crackers, spreads, cofees, teas, cocoas, popcorn, ice cream sundae and baking needs, chips, dips, cocktail goodies and condiments. Please remember the themes of Asian, Italian, Irish, Mexican as well as children and pets. We can also use a few bottles of wine and/or champagne! ESSENTIAL FILLERS- Candles and votives, small picture frames, cocktail and linen napkins, spa items, new cds or books and children and pet items. We need china items- teacups and saucers, pots, coffee mugs, wine glasses and assorted plates. We use it all! HELPFUL HINTS- Assembly time is hectic and time consuming, CAN YOU: remove the price stickers from your items? wash glass items? (this year we do not have access to the kitchen!), complete your shopping and bring items to church on October 23? THESE DETAILS DONE AHEAD ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU!
Any questions? Call Cheryl O'Grady at 508-209-3308 or 508-989-3739 or email at jogrady191@aol.com
