St. Luke's Mariner's Cross

  Reverend's Reflections

Dear People of St. Luke's,

Consider a duck swimming in a pond. Or even better, consider a swan as it glides across the water. The movement is graceful, elegant. Or at least that's the way it looks above the water.  Read more ...

Some Great News!

Search for Youth Minister! Help Us Get the Word Out!

Dick Clay left a bequest of $204,000 designated for use of youth ministry. We need your help in getting the word out; maybe you know of someone perfect for the job. We seek someone--lay or ordained--who has familiarity with the Episcopal Church, a passion for youth, some experience in youth work and/or Sunday School, and significant available time especially on weekends. At this point we are looking for whomever might be out there. The position starts at 2/3 time, $30,000, with benefits; while it can range up to full-time, we want to make the bequest last as long as possible--a minimum of 3 years, hopefully longer--as we build up parish-giving to keep a sustainable program in place. The right fit of the person is more important than the full/part-time, lay/ordained distinctions. Person needs to live locally (Scituate and contiguous towns) or be willing to relocate. Responsibilities include middle school, high school, and Sunday School programs. We will take a look at our possible candidates through and until July 12th, when we will re-evaluate if needed. Those interested should send in resume and any other supporting materials to the church, attention The Rev. Grant Barber.

Second, as a result of the Capital Campaign Survey the vestry has voted to go forward with the campaign sometime late fall/early winter. We will be seeking support for the more limited of the two options surveyed, that is to address needed repairs/replacements of our heating system at church (which date to the early 1960s), paving the parking lots, dealing with any roofing issues, refurbishment of Dutton Hall (paint, flooring--a move away from the 'gym-look,' which it was by the way--volleyball, basketball) and narthex (lobby).

Growing with God
farmstand flower pic
The St. Luke's Farm Stand is now officially open. ! We invite  you to grow and share your successes. So far this season we have shared sugar snap peas, heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, and summer squash plants to name a few. Additionally, we are looking for donations of rhubarb, herbs, and early fresh greens. All of the items are free for sharing or swapping but if you are able to make a small donation all proceeds will benefit the local food pantries.  Can't wait to see what we get this week!
