How do you know that the grains you buy are the grains you need? 

When looking for whole-grain choices, make sure the label says "100 percent whole-grain" and the ingredient label says "whole" before the grain.

One of these terms should be listed FIRST on the ingredients list:


Brown Rice                 Oatmeal                                  Whole Oats
Buckwheat                  Whole-grain Barley               Whole Rye
Bulgur                         Whole-grain Corn                  Whole Wheat
Graham Flour             Whole-grain Cornmeal          Wild Rice

A whole-grain has all of the main parts of the grain seed or kernel in tact: the bran, germ and endosperm. Only the very outer husk is removed.
