Health Care Reform Legislation Passes House
Senate begins work on Reconciliation Act
After a year of debate, Congress passed health care reform legislation, although there is still more work to be done.  Sunday night, the House of Representatives passed the Senate version legislation, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590), which President Obama signed into law on March 23, 2010.

The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (H.R. 4872) is a separate budget reconciliation bill which addresses the House Democrats' desired modifications to the Affordable Care Act.  It was also passed by the House of Representatives on Sunday and the Senate has begun their work on it.  Most experts assume the reconciliation bill will be amended by the Senate, in which case it will have to go back to the House for another vote.  Click here for a document that describes the major issues set forth in the combined legislation and the order of implementation timeline.

In addition, the Kaiser Family Foundation has produced a side-by-side comparison of the major health care reform proposals.

Many provisions of H.R. 3590 will not apply until future years, and, as such, will not require action on your part.  There are many provisions that will apply in 2010 depending on whether or not the Reconciliation Act is passed.  To this end, we will be sending future correspondence on how the current law and any amendments may impact you and/or your business.

In the interim, please give us a call to discuss any questions that you may have.  We would be happy to arrange a meeting to discuss.
Sincerely,
