In The Spotlight: Matt Newton, Acting Coach
 "When I decided to start coaching actors, I wanted to offer an affordable alternative to these other coaches, and also offer a very unique "business" approach. As someone who auditions every day, and who works steadily in tv, film, and commercials, and who has met many agents and managers, and met all the casting directors, I knew that I could tell actors EXACTLY what they could expect when getting started in this business. How to cold-read, how to break down a scene quickly, how to nail an audition, what to expect at a callback, a screen test, or on a film set. I wanted to offer something practical, something tangible, and something simple that actors could understand. It's about empowering my clients and giving them the confidence and resources to go out into the acting world and get noticed. I love coaching, and I love helping actors find truth and honesty. My clients have booked roles in national commercials, network tv shows, regional theatre, independing films, national tours, short films, web series, etc. My goal is to help my clients get work."
Award winning actor Matt Newton has been a professional actor for nearly twenty years, and has guest starred in over a dozen television shows, including "CRIMINAL MINDS", "UGLY BETTY," "DRAKE AND JOSH GO HOLLYWOOD," "GILMORE GIRLS," "STRANGERS WITH CANDY," "ALL MY CHILDREN," "GUIDING LIGHT," "JUDGING AMY," "FAMILY LAW," "DRAGNET," and "MIRACLES." He has appeared in a half dozen national network commercials and several films, including "MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS," "VAN WILDER," "DAHMER" (nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards), and the lead role in "POSTER BOY (2004)", for which he received rave reviews. He recently won Best Actor at the Philadelphia First Glance Film Festival for his role in the film "PEACE OF MIND." Cafe Oasis Just Keeps Getting Better...
What says home to you? If you're like me, that would be two rambunctious boys in a tiny apartment, a neighbor with a perpetually barky dog, and an embarrassingly large collection of sci-fi novels, but also on that list is FOOD. Not a slice or a fast-food burger, but real food, made by real people who take their time to take care of you. Four years ago, we decided to bring Cafe Oasis to the RG flagship location at 520 8th ave. We feel like it truly completes the sense of "home" that we strive to create at Ripley-Grier. Stop by and chat with Rose or Jerry, and try a bite of home. Or if you have a bigger bite in mind, we cater meals for groups of any size, from breakfast for two to lunch for two hundred.
