Ripley Grier Studios Newsletter October 2010
Me and Ike on the Wonderwheel Hey Everybody-

Welcome to October, the best excuse for dressing up in costume since the Rocky Horror Show. If New York has a holiday, it is most definitely Halloween. Like our fair city, it is both sacred and secular, funny and scary, delicious and dangerous. And who doesn't like taking candy from a stranger every now and then? RG is now in full swing, playing host to many wonderful projects, and looking forward to the future.

A friend saw me in the street the other day and said hi. He just finished up a long gig and is working on a new show. I asked him where they were rehearsing. He wrinkled his nose and said he was somewhere close to RG520, but the situation there was less than satisfactory (he actually used some stronger language, but I'll keep that to myself). "There are studios all over the place right now!", he said, sweeping is arm to indicate the theatre district/Hells Kitchen. "But they're not Ripley Grier. Ripley Grier is home."

I really liked that. Not "like" home, but home.

So come on home this fall. We'll bake you some cookies.

Employee of the Season!
Shakira Moran

shakira and nia
It will come as no surprise to those who know her that Shakira is our first Employee of the Season. Shakira has been our Front Desk Manager at the flagship 520 location, where she manages the flow of clients and employees throughout the day, making sure everyone has what they need and knows what they're doing. You can see her here six days per week, often accompanied by he daughter Nia, both of them universally adored. Shakira also spearheads much of RGs charity work, creating wonderfully successfull fundraising events, most recently for the Braking the Cycle AIDS ride, raising over $1500 for the cause while bringing people together and putting on a great show. Shakira is one of the many special people we are fortunate enough to have in our family.

Shout-outs are in order for DeJuan Lewis, Chris LaCour, Jim Ku, and Lorraine Cink, who were also nominated by clients and/or other staff members.

HE DID IT!!
Jim Ku rides from Boston to NYC to fight AIDS

jim friend
Braving the elements, fatigue, and what he now refers to as "The Mountains of Rhode Island", RG booker Jim Ku rode over 200 miles last weekend for the "Braking the Cycle" AIDS ride. Thanks to the support of our community, Jim and RG raised over $4,500, exceeding Jim's initial goal by nearly $1,000. Jim has already signed up for next year, so this looks like it will be an annual event! Thanks again to all those who donated, and all those who came to our fundraiser on the 18th.
Keep an eye out here, and on FB and Twitter, for info on upcoming RG charity events.

Trammel Time
With Trammel Peacock
TrammelTis time again for your adrenaline shot of Peacock. This golden tip is known as: Radical Raiment. Never overlook your attire when auditioning because the casting crew sure won't. The majority of performers assume wearing a bridesmaids dress, or a blazer with an ascot cravat when auditioning is always a thumbs up. When Thomas Cruise Mapother IV sauntered in to read for Top Gun he was wearing a fluffy dark brown jump suit, a big brass nose ring, and atop his head sat two twenty-four inch papier mache horns. Forthwith I envisioned myself playing volleyball on the beach with Val Kilmer. I did not; But here's how you can. Think outside the box! Next time you go in and read for "Man #1", dress as a tremendous red rhinestone blanketed roman numeralone. If you are not hired instantly, my name isn't Trammel Peacock.
