Old Lake Highlands Mourns the Loss of Our Neighbor, Sue Smith Ross
From The Dallas Morning News: Sue Smith was welcomed into Heaven by the Lord Jesus and brother Roy January 18, 2011. Sue was small of stature but big of heart. Sue loved to fish in White Rock Lake. She had chores to do around the yard and house. The family embraced the sport of tennis. Though smaller than most her competitive spirit led her to many successes and a scholarship at Texas Tech after graduating from Trinity Christian Academy and a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas. Sue wanted to be a Police Officer great choice! She was accepted into the Dallas Police Academy and graduated number 3 out of a class of 36. She was assigned to Northeast patrol division where she demonstrated great commitment and excellence to her duties as a street officer. For over 16 years as a Dallas Police Officer, her partners and friends cannot be numbered! In 1996, she received the Life Saving Award. What a legacy she leaves. True to the Lord always. Sue was truly a blessing and treasure to so many people. Sue leaves behind her sister, Dr. Anne Smith, parents Dr. and Mrs. John Lee Smith (Patt) and countless friends. Surely Heaven must be a more beautiful place now that Sue is there. Welcome home!

Orphans of the Month
East Lake Pet Orphanage

Sunday
Sunday is a lovely 8-month-old Domestic shorthair. This feisty little feline was found on, you guessed it, a Sunday! But whoever thought that Sunday could be a day of rest hasn't met this little bundle of kitty energy. She's always on the go and looking for ways to get into mischief! She has a chronic eye condition (feline herpesviral infection, common in kitties--a very high percentage of cats/kittens already have this virus but simply don't show any signs or symptoms of it) that is not contagious to humans or dogs, but is able to spread to other kitties-she may do best as a single kitty or in a household with other kitties that already have this virus. Treatment typically involves an antiviral supplement given twice daily in her food, and eye medications as needed.
Malory
Beautiful Malory, a 3-year-old Golden Retriever, always seems to have a smile on her face! She's a lovely lady with a personality that just can't be beat. Malory has Addison's disease, a situation in which the body is unable to produce certain hormones-this can typically be managed well with medication and regular labwork. With proper care, Addison 's patients can live live full, active lives! And active suits Malory just fine, as she's always ready for a fun walk with her favorite people! Malory would prefer a home with older kids (approximately 7 years of age and older). While she does well with other pets (she loves playing in camp with the other dogs), you will want to monitor her interaction with other pets when extra-yummy treats are involved such as rawhide chews--she'd prefer some privacy to enjoy these treats without other dogs wanting to try to share! Malory has a loving foster mom that keeps her company, so if you would like to meet Malory in person leave a message at 214-349-ELPO (3576), option number 8, and we'll coordinate schedules with you and her foster so that you can visit this wonderful gal!
