Quick Updates
June is Internet Safety Month and a great opportunity to make sure children are safe online. Predators, identity thieves, and a wide array of scam artists use the Internet to commit crimes. Parents should carefully monitor their children's use of computers and decide if unique accounts or parental controls are needed. Some helpful tips are available from the United States Computer Emergency Awareness Team, part of the Department of Homeland Security.  (http://www.us-cert.gov/cas/tips/ST05-002.html)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Folks from the Westbrook Children's Cabinet will be here for a site visit on the afternoon of June 29th.  They would especially like to talk to folks who were involved during the start-up of our CTC effort.  Please let me know if you are one of the folks who have been involved when we were back at the YMCA and can make yourself available on June 29th.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Executive Director of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine met with me on Friday.  We renewed our commitment to doing what we can to increase the number of community-based matches in the five-town area.
STAR
Folks from Quincy, Washington are exploring starting up their own STAR program!  Quincy is home to a CTC Coalition that participated in the University of Washington study as we did, and they have heard us talking about STAR for quite some time!

We have gotten as far as discussing training needs and helping them develop a budget...I will keep you posted on their progress!
Table Talks
Lynne and Barrett Brown hosted our second Table Talks on June 15th.  There were 15 parents in attendance and there was some great discussion.  I thoroughly enjoyed facilitating the event!  One of the parents has agreed to host another session for us, which is how the model is designed.

We also have folks from the Lincolnville United Christian Church acting as a host for a couple additional sessions.  If you would like to host, let me know.
DFC News
DFC Program
Our new project officer, Ms. Helen Hernandez, called to touch base on Wednesday.  She said that she has heard great things about our work already!

Just another reminder to turn in your DFC volunteer log sheets if you haven't been doing so.  We need to document all of the hours you are putting in!

The 'SIMPLE' Way to Hold Employees Accountable

The key to any manager's success is holding employees accountable for results.  Unfortunately, many are overwhelmed by the time, effort and know-how required. SIMPLE Accountability is quick and effective: a 6-step method that gets results through goals, commitment and buy-in.  This is not traditional discipline masquerading as an accountability model.  It's simple enough to learn and apply today-effective enough to positively impact your employees forever.

This MANP SkillBuilder will include:

  • Tips on how to hold employees accountable by setting expectations and getting buy-in up front
  • Strategies for giving feedback that is heard, accepted and acted upon
  • How to use disciplinary measures in a positive way
