Quick Updates
Through the network of prevention providers in the state of Maine, we have received a couple of interesting things to share with our community:

"Five Things" Flyers targeting parents during Prom and Graduation season.  Our PR workgroup approved distribution of these flyers (adapted with our logo) to five town area stores and restaurants.  We will be asking that merchants both tape them onto pizza boxes and drop them into retail bags.

The "CRAFTT-Adolescent Screening Tool" is designed for physicians to help them do annual screenings for substance abuse with their adolescent patients.  It has a simple series of questions and a list of resources.  We are seeking feedback from several local doctors to see if they would use this tool. If the response if positive, we can distribute them widely to the physicians who treat our local kids.
STAR

The celebration is scheduled for the evening of June 3rd at 6PM @ Hope Elementary School.  If you can help with the celebration, please contact Tug at 975-6722.
Table Talks
We are still seeking local parents of middle-schoolers to act as hosts for the Table Talks.  We have been asked to deliver at least six sessions by June 30.  For more information, contact Sheryl Whittier at the FTCTC offices (236-9800 or mentors@fivetownctc.org).
DFC News
DFC Program
Our six-month progress report has been accepted with only one small request for more information (which has now been provided).  Whew, onwards and upwards!
Quarterly Coalition Meetings
AdamAward  TanglewoodAward
Board Chair Dick Strong presents our spring Youth Advocate awards to Adam Kohlstrom (far left) and Tanglewood 4-H Camp and Learning Center (Summer Camp Director Jessica Decke---in blue--- and Executive Director Sandy Neils---in green-- accepted the award).

If you know of an individual or agency/group
doing great things for our local kids, send an email along with their name and why you think they should be honored as a youth advocate.  There are great people out there who are doing great things for kids...get their names in so that we can honor them!

Also, our next meeting is scheduled for mid-August.  Let us know if you have ideas for keynote topics!
Work Group and Board Meetings
The Board of Directors will meet next on June 14th at 8:30AM at the Five Town CTC offices. The Executive Committee will meet prior to the Board meeting (beginning at 7:30AM).

The Community Outreach and Public Relations Work Group
continues to work on the radio PSA campaign on Low Commitment to School and the ad campaign celebrating our community partners.  Have you heard the radio spots or seen the newspaper / VS ads?  If so, drop me a line and let me know!  The next meeting is today at 8:30AM at the Five Town CTC offices in Rockport.

The Program Evaluation Work Group: will meet again on June 4th.

The Coalition Maintenance Work Group: will meet again on June 15.

The Funding Work Group met on Friday, June 28th.  Members of West Bay Rotary joined the work group for a planning meeting for the Harvest Hootenanny (October 9 at the Snow Bowl).  After the guests from Rotary left, the work group stayed on to talk about the Holiday Home Tour (during Christmas By the Sea) and the Midcoast Community Chorus benefit concert (June 12).  Next meeting will be Friday, July 30th at 1PM at the Five Town CTC offices in Rockport.

The Youth Involvement Work Group  met on Friday, May 28th.  They discussed ideas for a job description for members of a CTC Youth Advisory Board.  Workgroup Chair Ed O'Brien will be circulating an email to Board members soliciting ideas on this subject.  The next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 23rd @ 3PM at the Five Town CTC offices in Rockport.

The Community Data Work Group  does not currently have its next meeting scheduled.

The 'SIMPLE' Way to Hold Employees Accountable

The key to any manager's success is holding employees accountable for results.  Unfortunately, many are overwhelmed by the time, effort and know-how required. SIMPLE Accountability is quick and effective: a 6-step method that gets results through goals, commitment and buy-in.  This is not traditional discipline masquerading as an accountability model.  It's simple enough to learn and apply today-effective enough to positively impact your employees forever.

This MANP SkillBuilder will include:

  • Tips on how to hold employees accountable by setting expectations and getting buy-in up front
  • Strategies for giving feedback that is heard, accepted and acted upon
  • How to use disciplinary measures in a positive way

in closing...
I took my 86 year old grandmother out for a cruise in "Sophia" (my 1956 Imperial) this weekend.  It was wonderful to see her have such fun and to be able to get her out of the house (she doesn't leave very often any more).  It was a wonderful day.
