DFC Program
There has been much interest on the national level in developing local messages regarding graduation and Prom time.  Sheryl Whittier is working on creating flyers to be affixed to pizza boxes and dropped in shopping bags that remind parents to be especially vigilant during this higher risk time.  If you would like to work on this idea, let me know (dalene@fivetownctc.org).
STAR

The celebration is scheduled for the evening of June 3rd at 6PM @ Hope Elementary School.  If you can help with the celebration, please contact Tug at 975-6722.

Quincy CTC (Quincy, Washington) has expressed interest in possibly starting up a STAR program in their community.  Quincy CTC Coordinator Ray Horodowitz and Quincy Rec director Chris Koeppel talked with me about the basics of the program and their interest on May 19th.  Quincy will be included as a potential test site in the Annie E. Casey Foundation grant application.  More on this as it develops.
Table Talks
We have scheduled our first Table Talk for June 15th and have two more families who have indicated a willingness to host.  We are currently seeking more parents of middle-schoolers to act as hosts for the Table Talks.  We have been asked to deliver at least six sessions by June 30.  For more information, contact Sheryl Whittier at the FTCTC offices (236-9800 or mentors@fivetownctc.org).
Quarterly Coalition Meetings
PLEASE SEND IN NOMINATIONS for Youth Advocate Award winners.  If you know of an individual or agency / group doing great things for our local kids, send an email along with their name and why you think they should be honored as a youth advocate.  There are great people out there who are doing great things for kids...get their names in so that we can honor them!

Our next meeting is scheduled for mid-August.  Let us know if you have ideas for keynote topics!
Work Group and Board Meetings
The Board of Directors will meet next on June 14th.

The Community Outreach and Public Relations Work Group
met on May 18th and will meet again on June 1st.  They are working on updating the FTCTC website, the partner appreciation ad campaign, the radio PSAs on Low Commitment to School...all in addition to letting folks know about what is happening locally in prevention.  They are also trying to schedule a virtual meeting with the PR workgroup of the Toole, UT Communities That Care group.  If you know of anyone else who could lend a hand to their efforts, please have them contact Kim Grinnell or Peter Russell.

The Program Evaluation Work Group met on May 19th and finalized discussion of the cycle 18 program evaluation report.  Their next meeting is on June 4th.

The Coalition Maintenance Work Group met on May 18.  They discussed the honing of their role in the Five Town CTC system.  They will meet again on June 15.

The Funding Work Group will meet again on May 21 to work on planning the Harvest Hootenanny.

The Youth Involvement Work Group is trying to come up with a date for a meeting this week.

The Community Data Work Group does not yet have a date for its next meeting.
Quick Updates
We are still working on a draft organizational budget.  A revised budget will be considered by the Board of Directors at is next meeting.

Dr. J. David Hawkins of the University of Washington will be giving a plenary speech followed by a workshop on CTC at the upcoming Mental Health America national conference in Washington, D.C. on June 11th.  He has asked that I attend on behalf of Five Town CTC to share 'stories from the field' with the conference audience.

The final in the series of three Training of CTC Trainers events will take place at Penn State University on June 8th and 9th.  I will be attending, and so will be out of the office on June 7-11 between this event and the Mental Health America Conference (above).

The letter of intent to apply for funding from the Annie E. Casey foundation is due by the end of June.  I am working with Kevin Haggerty, Assistant Director of the Social Development Research Group at the University of Washington on an outline of what it will take for us to be able to test STAR in more diverse and economically challenged communities.  Dr. Marshall Jones (the originally developer of PALS, upon which STAR is modeled) is also assisting with this.
Conferences and Trainings
Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training:

This program is a six hour, interactive, face-to-face training that provides public health professionals, emergency responders, and natural community helpers without former mental health education with the concepts and skills associated with psychological first aid.  Additionally, this training is applicable to public health settings, the workplace, the military, mass disaster venues, and even the demands of critical incidents, e.g., dealing with the psychological aftermath of accidents, robberies, suicide, homicide, or community violence.
