Open Season on Invasive Lionfish !! 
By now most of you have heard that the non-native Lionfish that have been swarming through the Bahamas have reached the Keys. Every effort is being put forth tp round up these invaders before they can negatively affect our precious reef ecosystems. If you have not heard, these fish have become very prevalent quickly because they feed on anything smaller than themselves, and have no natural predator in Atlantic waters. Reef.org has been putting a number of research projects together to find out where they are, and how quickly they are multiplying. Just this past weekend of September 11th they had their first annual Upper Keys Lion Fish Derby, with more planned for the Middle and Lower Keys later this fall. In the Upper Key's Derby about 100 divers caught 534 Lionfish, which is considered a success. The winning team caught 111 Lionfish alone. The largest caught was 10.54 inches, which is still smaller than their maximum 18 inch full grown size. For more information on the remaining derbies visit Reef.org's sign up page. |

 New Pathfinder 2200 TRS at Caribee Now | |
Many people have asked for a more family featured and affordable model in the Pathfinder line of Bay Boats, and Maverick Boat Company listened. This new boat is built on modified version of their most popular 2200V hull. It comes with improvements that will be equally helpful to the family cruising for the afternoon and to the dedicated fisherman headed to his honey hole. The most apparent improvement is also the namesake of the new model, Third Row Seating, with two flip up seats aft on both sides of the boat. The anchor locker has been enlarged to fit a larger anchor more comfortably. The new console has the added toe space all the way around, introduced with the 2300HPS, keeping you and your passengers more securely in the boat, as well as many other new features such as recessed trim tabs. As with any 2200 Pathfinder, the boat can take up to an F250 Yamaha Four Stroke, but this boat has been built to work optimally with Yamaha's F150 Four Stroke. The engine will still give you great cruising performance, fuel efficiency, and helps keep the boat at a much more affordable price point. |  |
