CALL FOR FY 2011-2016 STP PROJECTS
DMMC announced a call for FY 2011 - 2016 Surface Transportation Program (STP) projects on June 18, 2010. Applications sponsored or co-sponsored by a DuPage municipality will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 13, 2010. Project requests for up to 70% federal construction funding for highway projects and up to 75% federal construction funding for Transportation Control Measure (TCM) projects will be accepted. Further details including application forms, the DMMC STP Manual and other information can be found on the DMMC website or by contacting Kama Dobbs
IML INNOVATIONS
The Illinois Municipal League is seeking submissions for the "Illinois Innovations and Showcase" to be held at the IML Annual Conference in September. If your community has created a new program, expanded a current program, or just has a great idea and wants to share it, the IML encourages your community to participate in this program. Registration forms are due Friday, August 27, 2010.

SALES TAX LEGISLATION
The General Assembly approved legislation that would institute a sales tax exemption for certain school-related items. The exemption is limited to qualified items that are purchased over the 10-day period between August 6-15. Senate Bill 3658 does not remove the base 1.25% tax rate that is shared with local governments. Nor does it affect any additional sales tax imposed by municipalities exercising their home rule powers or by non-home rule municipalities that impose an additional sales tax under a specific statutory grant of authority. The sales tax holiday is estimated to cost the state $40-$60 million.
GOVERNOR'S HOMETOWN AWARDS
Applications are now available for the 2010 Governor's Hometown Award. The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has presented this award annually since 1983 to nominate a community's best volunteer projects. The Governor's Hometown Awards Program gives formal recognition to projects that have contributed to their community's quality of life. Awards are made based on population in six categories: Beautification and Sustainability Projects, Parks and Recreation Projects, Memorials and Monuments Projects, History and Historic Preservation Projects, Services and Mentorship Projects, and General Projects. Applications and the latest information are now available on the DCEO website. Nominations must be received by August 2, 2010. For more information, contact Wendy Bell at (217) 558-2838.
FEDERAL FUNDS FOR ITEP PROJECTS
On June 21, IDOT announced the availability of about $80 million in federal funds for 2010 Transportation Enhancement (ITEP) projects.  ITEP funds can be used for up to 80% of the cost of engineering, land acquisition, and construction of projects in 12 categories that enhance the transportation system, including construction of sidewalks, bicycle lanes and trails, highway beatification, and bicycle and pedestrian safety and educational activities. Although ITEP funds cannot be used as the local match for STP funds, they can be used to fund phases that are not eligible for STP funding.

More information can be found on the ITEP website. If you have any questions, please read the ITEP Guidelines Manual, read the application instructions or contact the District 1 Local Roads office at 847-705-4201. You can also submit questions thru the FAQ section toitep@dot.il.gov

If you have questions that are not answered on the IDOT website, or need assistance completing applications, please contact Kama Dobbs, Transporation Project Manager.
