RED LIGHT CAMERA ENFORCEMENT REACHES SPRINGFIELD
The Conference sent a letter to all legislators reminding them of the importance of traffic safety that is provided by Red Light Camera Enforcement. The Conference encourages every municipality that uses Red Light Camera Enforcement to contact their legislators and discuss the operations of the program and the safety benefits for residents. VIDEO GAMING POLL OF MUNICIPALITIES
The Conference has organized a place on the DMMC website for members to share what their communities are doing, or not doing, regarding video gaming. Mayors/Presidents and Managers/Administrators are encouraged to email their information to Kim Sumner, Member Services and Communications Manager, at ksumner@dmmc-cog.org to be posted on a password-protected page of the DMMC website. PLANNING AND ZONING WORKSHOP
Local government consultant Pete Pointner will facilitate A Training Workshop on Planning and Zoning, on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Addison Village Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Topics covered will include: Why plan in a down economy; Who is responsible for planning; What are the tools for shaping development; How do you introduce sustainability and economic development into the comprehensive plan; How do we shape private development; and How can you expedite the development review process. NOMINATIONS FOR GOVERNMENTAL LEADER OF THE YEAR BEING ACCEPTED
Every year, the Conference honors a government official who exhibits knowledge and understanding of municipal concerns and works toward legislative or other solutions to these concerns. The Conference is now seeking nominations for the 2009 Governmental Leader of the Year (GLOY) Award. The deadline for submissions is Friday, September 11, 2009. DMMC MEMBERS AWARDED SRTS GRANTS
The Illinois Safe Routes to School Program supports projects and programs that enable and encourage walking and bicycling to and from school. A total of over $780,000 in Safe Routes to School grants were awarded to DMMC members: Addison, Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Itasca, Lisle, Warrenville and Wheaton. ENERGY PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
Additional ARRA funding for the State Energy Program is allowing the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to develop new programs and expand current programs to fund cost-effective energy projects. A total of $101 million in grant funding is available through the following programs: Green Roofs, Electric Efficiency, Thermal Efficiency for Public Facilities, Large Customer Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy Production, Community Renewable Energy, Green Industry Business Development, and Next Generation Biofuels Production. RED FLAGS RULE IMPLEMENTATION DELAYED AN ADDITIONAL 3 MONTHS
In order to give creditors, including public utilities and financial institutions, more time to review guidance and develop and implement written Identity Theft Prevention Programs, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced on July 29 that it would not begin enforcing the Red Flags Rule until November 1.
