Dear Dr. ,
This December ACRO's President-Elect, Dr. AJ Mundt, along with five residents, several radiation oncologists and a physicist will travel to the East African country of Senegal to participate in a mission!
ACRO has funded three scholarships to enable this important radiation oncology mission, called the Global Radiation Oncology Workforce (GROW). Volunteers and scholarship recipients will be working with the non-profit organization RadiatingHope.org, whose mission is to advance cancer care in developing countries.
This year's mission in Senegal hopes to achieve the following goals: -Commissioning and training Senegal radiation doctors on their first ever linear accelerator. -Installing and training in the use of an HDR machine, a new tool for the clinic.
-Increase education on Womens' health issues, including screening, early detection and treatment options.
To that end, the mission will have many non-medical and gynecology volunteers who will set up outreach posts for cancer information and screening.
Stay tuned, as ACRO will provide monthly updates to inform our members on the status of this important outreach mission. If you are interested in providing personal support to this mission contact Brandon Fisher, brandon.fisher@radiatinghope.org.
