ACRO 2011 Annual Meeting Rewind

ACRO 2011 Annual Meeting Successful
When ACRO Members gathered at the Hotel del Coronado, on Coronado Island, CA,on Feb. 24, President Obama's healthcare plan had been recently passed as law. However, due to election results from Nov. 2010, control of the House of Representatives had switched to the Republican Party.  Many of these newly elected legislators had run on the platform of repealing/de-funding the new healthcare legislation.  Yet, with the Senate still controlled by the Democratic Party, repeal of the aforementioned healthcare legislation could not take place prior to the 2012 election.

In this setting, perhaps the most unsettled after years of controversy and partisanship in Washington, D.C., ACRO commenced its annual program to assist radiation oncologists through these uncertain times.

ACRO did not focus exclusively on government actions that affect the healthcare field.  Other pertinent issues - coding and billing, quality and safety, technology paradigms, and treatment advances - took center stage, reinforcing the overall message of the meeting- the importance of physician organization and professional vigilance to preserve the integrity of the day-to-day practice of radiation oncology and patient safety.
