Dear ACRO Member,
We have a unique opportunity to advocate for our specialty
and I need your help now!
The American Medical Association's Board of Trustees is
considering policy that would oppose any designation of
radiation oncology as an "ancillary" service. This
consideration is due to a resolution presented by ACRO
leadership at the AMA's Interim meeting last November.
The AMA Trustees are men and women of integrity who will
make the policy decision that most closely reflects reality.
Our job is to ensure that they understand the facts about who
radiation oncologists are and what we do.
For that reason, I ask that you write a letter to the "AMA
Board of Trustees" to educate them about the patients you care
for and the services you provide. There is a world of
difference between what a typical radiation oncologist does
and any service that could appropriately be called
"ancillary".
Please read the attached talking points and join us in
advocating for our specialty by writing a letter immediately.
All the information you need is attached. You can "cut and
paste" from the talking points into a letter on your own
letterhead. Do not simply forward the talking points page as
is.
Timeliness is crucial as the Board decision is expected in
the near future. Please write this week and let your voice be
heard on this critical issue for our specialty. This is one of
the defining moments that may never come again.
Please act now. Fax your letter addressed to the "AMA Board
of Trustees" ASAP to 312-469-5849.
Also, please fax a copy of your letter to the ACRO office
at 301-656-0989.
Thank you.
