Stand out with Oregon's NCRC
National Career Readiness Certificate

Oregon's National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is a hiring tool that helps employers identify qualified job applicants. Individuals who earn a certificate have demonstrated the foundational skills critical to succeed in nearly every job.

These skills are: Applied Math, Reading for Information and Locating Information.

Oregon's NCRC can be incorporated into an organization's existing hiring practices. As an objective measure, it is used as one factor in many to help determine an applicant's fit for a job.

Oregon's NCRC is guided by a partnership of public and private leaders, and will be available statewide by the end of 2010.

Comments sought for proposed
Transportation Enhancement (TE)

December 17, 2010 - January 28, 2011
Oregon Department of Transportation

Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) seeks input from the public on projects from around the state under consideration for funding through the Transportation Enhancement (TE) Program - The Dalles' Riverfront Trail included.

We here at The Dalles have been working on the Riverfront Trail project for about 10 years. When completed, it will connect The Dalles Dam to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and Museum with a 10-mile trail along the river.

These projects have advanced to the public comment phase. Responses received from the public will help ODOT determine which projects to advance to the TE Advisory Committee for final evaluation and selection.

Please take a moment to fill out this survey:
TE Public Comments Survey 2010

Please complete the entire survey prior to submitting the survey. Comments will be accepted from December 17 - January 28.

To learn more about the TE Program or to view the complete list of projects being proposed, visit the ODOT web site.

Helping those in need through MCCAC
Starting December 15th, 2010

With funding cuts of about 30% or more in several energy and homeless programs, the Mid Columbia Community Action (MCCAC) asks for your help to help others in need.

MCCAC has been offered a "Matching Challenge Grant" from Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) in Salem to help those struggling in our community.

Between now and the end of January, for every dollar Mid Columbia Community Actions (MCCAC) raises locally, OHCS will contribute a matching dollar amount up to a maximum of $20,000.

All donations are tax-deductible; may be sent to:

Struggling Homeowners
Have A New Resource
OHSI's MPA Program - Online

Homeowners who are struggling to pay their mortgages due to unemployment or a significant loss in income can turn to a new online resource: www.oregonhomeownership.org

This new website will be the home to the Oregon Homeownership Stabilization Initiative's (OHSI's) Mortgage Payment Assistance (MPA) program.

Under the program, the state will play the mortgages of selected applicants for as long as a year to a $20,000 maximum.

At this website, homeowners can learn more in detail about the MPA program, see if they may be eligible, and sign up for regular program updates.

OHSI has also identified Columbia Cascade Housing Corporation (CCHC), an affiliate of Mid Columbia Housing Authority, to help homeowners in Hood River, Sherman and Wasco Counties navigate the application process.

Homeowners can reach CCHC's MPA Program at 1.877.503.6127. If you need immediate help, call the Homeowner's HOPE Hotline at 1.888.955.HOPE (4673).

"We are always the best value in the Gorge!"

DID YOU KNOW?

"A dollar spent at a locally owned store is usually spent 6-15 times before it leaves the community. From $1, you create $5-$14 in value within your community."

"Spend $1 at a national chain store and 80% of it leaves town immediately."

Quotes: Tim Mitchell, first cited in 'E' Magazine - article available through the Northwest Earth Institute's 'Changes For Sustainable Living' discussion course book.
