Car Prowls in The Dalles Message from Jay B. Waterbury Chief of Police - The Dalles, OR
The city of The Dalles has seen a dramatic increase in thefts from vehicles over the last several months. These car prowls have touched every area in the city and have occurred in waves; with multiple vehicles being hit a night.
The Police Department is doing what we can to stop these thefts, but unfortunately it's impossible to be everywhere at one time. While we continue to track & investigate the stolen property, we ask for your help in deterring these crimes.
All of these thefts have involved vehicles with unlocked doors. We are asking people to please remember to lock their doors and hide all valuables from view. Some people may be concerned their windows will be broken. We understand this concern but remind you that if there is nothing for a thief to see, then there is no reason for them to break your window.
Also, thieves like to be discreet and breaking a window would create a lot of noise; thus increasing the chances of them being apprehended - something they don't like.
The best crime is one that does not occur. Please help us stop these crimes from happening.
As always, if you see something suspicious or have information that might help in prosecuting these criminals, call The Dalles Police at 541.296.2613

"A dollar spent at a locally owned store is usually
spent 6-15 times before it leaves the community. From $1, you create $5-$14 in

"Spend $1 at a national chain store and
