New Business Show from Y102
Monday, Sept. 13 @ noon

Coming soon to a radio station near you, it's Business Beat, a new local business show with Rodger Nichols, starting Monday, September 13 and every Monday during the noon hour on Gorge Country Y102.

For 19 years, Nichols covered local businesses for The Dalles Reminder & The Dalles Chronicle.

Nichols was named Small Business Journalist of the Year for Oregon 2009 by the Portland district of the Small Business Administration. Now he's putting that experience to work in a brand new medium.

Listeners will hear interviews with local businesses, updates on local business news & government actions affecting businesses, all in the breezy style that made his Word on the Street column a long-term fixture in the newspaper.

If your business has changed hands, moved, expanded, won an award or even painted the outside, Nichols wants to help you share your recent news.

Contact Rodger Nichols at 541.296.9102, ext. 312 or news@haystackbroadcasting.com. Then tune in each Monday during the noon hour on Gorge Country Y102 at 102.3FM.

Become A Master Recycler: Course
Sept. 11 - Nov. 2 at Mosier Creek Terrance

For folks that are "gung-ho" about reducing waste and recycling more, here's a great way to get the formal training needed to help make a difference in your community: Become a Master Recycler through a class offered by TriCounty Hazardous Waste & Recycling Program.

Similar to the OSU Extension Service's popular Master Gardener program, participants will attend a series of mandatory classes and field trips, and be required to volunteer at least 30 "payback" hours in their communities.

The mission is to "bridge the gap between awareness and action by motivating people to reduce solid waste in homes & workplaces."

Classes are offered free of charge to residents of Wasco, Sherman & Hood River counties.

Since starting last Fall, the program has completed two rounds of course training with 22 graduates currently completing their "payback" requirements.

Their volunteer activities have included helping with waste reduction and recycling at schools,  on-the-job & in child day care facilities; staffing booths at local farmers markets; marching in local parades; litter clean-ups; helping with a medical waste collection; helping at local hazardous waste collection events; and doing recycled art projects with children.

The Fall 2010 Master Recycler course will be held Tuesday evenings, September 14 - November 2 at the Mosier Creek Terrace in Mosier.

More info/application: www.tricountyrecycle.com
then click on "Master Recycler" link.

Or contact Cindy Brown at TriCounty Hazardous Waste & Recycling Program at 541.506.2636.

Help Us Help Others: "Buy A Blanket"
Every Saturday, starting September 11

Join the Oregon Red Cross educate Oregonians about the importance of preparedness and encourage their support of local disaster relief. Volunteer as a greeter for the 'Buy A Blanket' campaign and help us help others.

Help the American Red Cross rebuild lives simply by greeting customers in your local Fred Meyer store. The job is easy - spend only a few hours on a Saturday welcoming shoppers & handing them a card with a simple request to 'Buy A Blanket'. This virtual gift* then helps local families to get started with rebuilding their lives after a house fire or disaster.

From September 11 - October 2, every Saturday we'll be greeting customers in Fred Meyer stores around the state. Just sign up for a two-hour shift at the store closest to home.
