Dear VNN Member:
Because of your tremendous response to the recent social media webinar with Kevin Knebl and a flurry of projects we are doing for many of our VNN members, today's Media Insider will be brief.
First, thanks to everyone who attended the webinar on Tuesday. We have received a tremendous amount of feedback and we are glad that the webinar was so helpful to so many of you. For more details on the webinar, check out my Social Media Tips section below.
Second, as you see from the red light on the right, time is running short for some VNN members. Access to our wealth of resources, news content and training guides could be lost. If you are one of the more than 150 members who have already renewed...THANK YOU! If you have yet to renew and you have questions or concerns, PLEASE contact Dr. Jim or me as soon as you can. We don't want you to miss out on any of our incredible material!

Animals in the News This Week |
Amazingly, one of the most talked about stories this week is the news of an article in the Emerging Infectious Diseases journal about how sleeping with your pets can put you at risk for zoonotic diseases.
We have Message Points available for you at MyVNN.com on this subject along with numerous resources on zoonotic diseases. Remember, our goal is to calm public fears and not allow a few crazy headlines to cause a panic.
In other news, the debate over Prop B in Missouri is heating up again. VNN Member Brent Toellner (KCDogBlog) has the details on Senate Bill 95. This bill is causing some concern because it forces animal rescues and shelters to meet the same requirements as outlined in Prop B for breeders. As you will see from the comments and his follow up blog, the debate is FAR from over. If you have any expert opinion that you can share, please contact me and I will put you in contact with Brent.

Social Media = What VNN Members Learned Recently! |
We were extremely fortunate to have web marketing guru, Mr. Kevin Knebl join us for Tuesday's webinar on Social Media. Kevin gave a brief overview of why social media is important, showed an example of "listening" in social media and provided some helpful hints for both Facebook and Twitter. He even was able to handle every question that came up during the hour long session. Many of our members were happy to hear him briefly discuss sites like Groupon.com, LivingSocial.com and Twello.com. In addition, he mentioned Google Alerts, how Facebook pages can benefit you and even a little tangent on Facebook Ads! All in all, it was a great hour! If you missed the webinar, don't despair. We are placing archived versions of it online at MyVNN.com. Since the hour-long webinar is a huge file, we have separated it into four segments for easier listening and download. Visit the Webinar and Media Training Page at MyVNN.com for access to 4 audio files from the webinar. As soon as we resolve some minor video glitches, we will endeavor to place the video up as well. If you would like the entire hour-long video, email one of us and we can send you a link to a file-sharing service.

Upcoming Events and Reminders |
February is:
National Pet Dental Health Month. NOW is the time to start thinking about how you are going to approach your local media and/or how you can use our VNN resources to help market this annual event. Don't forget to discuss this in your social media! February is also American Heart Month. Do you provide cardiac ultrasounds at your practice? How abou EKGs? Use this event as a reason to reach out to local media and discuss heart health for pets. Many practices also focus on spays and neuters at this time of year...consider sending out a press release detailing your efforts to help people get their pets "fixed".
WVC also starts soon. We know that there is a MASSIVE amount of information at an event like this, so, if you are attending and you find a new idea, product or technology that you think deserves a VNN story, let us know!! |
