Vintage year for Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week 2011

"I feel that we can all look back on this year's Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week as being a great success. The breezy conditions, which were at times a little challenging, providing good sailing conditions throughout the week. Off the water, there was a definite feel-good factor all the way from East Cowes to Egypt Point.

For the Harbour Commission, it is by far the busiest two weeks of the year. The plans my team put into action stood us in very good stead and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all. We provided more than 300 swinging moorings around the harbour, 119 berths at SWM with 20 RIBs and 60 keel boats moored on pontoons. The Harbour Master's vessel "Seamark" escorted 144 ferries safely into and out of Cowes.

At the same time, may I pass on our congratulations to the organisers, officials and sponsors, together with the clubs and organisations, that help make this special event such a success for the competitors, spectators and fans around the world.

Cowes Week 2011 Cowes

As ever, the dedication and relentless efforts of the RNLI were particularly impressive. It was excellent to see one of its crews being welcomed ashore by HRH The Princess Royal at Shepards Wharf. I'm not sure who was the most surprised by the encounter.

From the first gun on the Squadron line to the traditional fireworks display on Friday evening, Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week was a resounding success."

HRH The Princess Royal visits Shepards Wharf and Trinity Landing
HRH The Princess Royal made a personal visit to Shepards Wharf to meet with representatives from Toe in the Water and the Pacific 2012 challenge team during Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week. There was also a delightfully impromptu meeting between the Princess Royal and a Cowes RNLI crew as they arrived back, dripping wet, from one of their many Cowes Week call-outs.

On 11th August the Princess Royal also unveiled a name board for Trinity Landing, a gift to Cowes Harbour Commission from Trinity House. The Princess Royal was elected in May this year to the position of Master of the Corporation of Trinity House, succeeding her father HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.

Peppermint Shepards Wharf a hit with crews in  Cowes Week

Peppermint Shepards Wharf was established as "the" crew venue for this year's Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, providing a relaxing retreat for yachtsmen competing in the regatta. It also proved itself the perfect venue for hosting many highlights of the Cowes Week social calendar.

From the outset, Peppermint Events aimed to provide a more relaxed venue in Cowes that welcomed crews, together with their friends and family, creating an alternative to the more 'full-on' experiences in other parts of the town.

"This year was a particularly positive one for us. Our re-focus on berth holders, crews and competitors was warmly welcomed; so much so that we attracted people from all over Cowes. The feedback we have received from both berth holders and visitors has been overwhelming and we look forward to another successful year in 2012", commented Adam Hempenstall who managed Peppermint Shepards Wharf.
