Enjoy a safe
Cowes Week

Cowes Harbour Commission have introduced a number of safety initiatives for Cowes Week:
A harbour launch will be on a patrol at the chain ferry during peak periods advising transiting yachts of the Chain Ferry's intention to cross the river. All leisure mariners are asked, when safe and practicable, to slow down to allow the chain ferry to maintain this important service during Cowes Week. Without your help it would simply be impossible.
Cowes Harbour Commission will also be distributing a very useful 'Cowes Week Tips' flier to all visiting vessels, please take the time to read this. It is available to view and download from cowes.co.uk
In particular please pay attention to the following:
- When navigating in the fairway, stay well clear of any commercial craft, which will be escorted by the Harbour Master's vessel Seamark. Stay on the correct side of the fairway and give way to vessels already in the fairway when departing a marina or mooring.
- Do not enter the area of day class moorings unless proceeding to a mooring within that area.
- Ensure that your vessel obeys the speed limit of 6 knots in the harbour and keep your wash to a minimum.
- Ensure you display your navigation lights at night

Big effort for Cowes Week 2011

Day boat entries for this year's Cowes Week regatta are on target to be record-breaking, with the XOD Centenary alone attracting an astonishing fleet of 140 boats. With this unprecedented number of day class boats, the Harbour Commission has responded positively to ensure every competitor has a suitable mooring by laying a total of 5.5km of ground chain and 244 day class mornings, 50 more than last year. As a small gesture to mark this XOD Centenary event the Harbour Commission has laid two complimentary X boat display moorings inside Trinity Landing.
"As part of a continued effort to improve facilities during Cowes Week, we have also made some changes to the mooring configuration. Many of the moorings have been completely refurbished with over 100 strops and mooring buoys replaced," commented CHC's Commercial Manager, Barney Sollars.
When asked about the preparations for this year's Aberdeen Asset Cowes Week, Cowes Harbour Master Stuart McIntosh, remarked "I have a great team and over the years they have developed a strong 'blue print' for delivering the moorings, services and assistance that the Cowes Week competitors deserve. My team are now looking forward to the challenges and excitement of the week; but also to meeting and working with the skippers and crews to ensure it is not only a great week but most importantly a safe week."

HRH Princess Royal to visit Cowes

HRH The Princess Royal will be visiting Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week in her new position as Master of Trinity House, a role that she has taken over from her father, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. The Princess Royal has a very full programme of official visits in Cowes and around the Island and will be staying onboard the Trinity House Vessel, THV Galatea during her stay. A small, but important part of her programme will be to unveil a new sign for Trinity Landing on Thursday 11th at 9:30am. It has been commissioned and donated by Trinity House to Cowes Harbour Commission to mark its association with the landing. Trinity Landing continues to provide a great gateway and catalyst for attracting events and special vessels of interest including tall ships and visits to Cowes by passenger ships.
