Skutt Ceramics, Inc.

We recently announced that 40 clients have been working with us for 15 years or more!  We are highlighting these clients in a series of E-Newsletters.

In January 1996, Skutt Ceramics, Inc. purchased a system with AddonSoftware from MASI. Over the ensuing years, they have upgraded their software and customized it to meet their changing needs as they have grown to be the largest provider of hobby kilns in the United States.

Skutt Ceramics, Inc.

In 1953 father/son team, Ralph and Neil Skutt, manufactured the industry's first multi-sided hobby kiln in Olympia, Washington under the name "Skutt & Son". The introduction of this new lightweight design revolutionized, not just the ceramic kiln business but the whole ceramic industry by bringing ceramics to the home.  In 1958 they were joined by another son, Phil, and the company name was changed to "Skutt & Sons."  Phil became the driving force behind the company for the next 40 years, building the company and the awareness of the Skutt brand in the industry.

A lot has changed over the last 40 + years. Kiln companies have come and gone, new clay bodies and glazes are constantly being developed that demand greater firing precision, and computerized controllers are quickly replacing the once cutting edge KilnSitter.

In 1998, Phil's son Jim Skutt took over as President and continues to grow the company.   In 2009 the acquisition of Thomas Stuart Potter's Wheels, the leading name in the country for quality potter's wheels further cemented Skutt as the leader in the ceramic industry.

Throughout the years the people at Skutt have worked hard to meet the changing needs of their customers, but one thing that has remained constant is their fierce dedication to manufacturing quality products and providing outstanding customer service. They realize that every object placed in a Skutt kiln has value.  It could be a child's horse that looks more like a dog or a master potter's $20,000 commissioned sculpture. Both of these artists are counting on their kiln to do its job ..and they don't want it to let them down.

"Back in the mid-80's when I was starting with the business, my dad told me that one of the hardest things to know about your business is your costs," Jim Skutt said recently.  "I came to realize over time that having accurate accounting of our costs is imperative to our success.  Not a day goes by that I am not thankful we are working with MASI and AddonSoftware for that part of our business."

Whatever you create, Skutt Kilns help bring it to life. Whether you need a kiln for a Pottery Studio, kilns for Classrooms, kilns for Contemporary Studios, a Glass Kiln, a Production Kiln, bead kilns...Skutt has the kiln for you.
