Eternally Grateful

for Exception Care

As a breast cancer survivor, Barbara Larson is grateful for the care she has received at Henry Mayo's Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. Barbara expressed her deepest gratitude recently at a Henry Mayo employee forum, thanking her caregivers, specifically Holly Ware, Dr. Gregory Senofsky and Dr. John Barstis, for saving her life.

Larson read from an open letter she wrote to the Breast Imaging Center:

"You hear about breast cancer, but you never think it will happen to you. But it did. It happened to me. I knew that the best doctors and services were right here in Santa Clarita at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. My breast surgeon Dr. Senofsky, and oncologist Dr. Barstis, were the best and I knew I was in good hands."

Special Cash Price for Digital Mammograms

BCA4

With a dedication to fighting breast cancer through early detection and timely treatments, the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center is offering a special cash price for mammograms during October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Patients who are uninsured or have high deductibles can receive a mammogram for the special cash price of $180.

The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center is designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).  The Center uses digital mammography, which is faster and significantly increases the ability to see very small abnormalities, as opposed to traditional analog mammography.

The Breast Imaging Center also has the latest ultrasound technology, as well as breast MRI, which complements mammography in cancer detection and facilitates minimally invasive, image-guided biopsies.

The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center does not require a physician's referral or prescription for routine screening mammograms. Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday, including lunchtimes and into the evening, as well as some weekends.

The Breast Imaging Center is located on Henry Mayo's campus at 23929 McBean Parkway, Suite 101, Valencia.

For more information and to schedule an appointment, please call 661-253-8822.

Rigorous Evaluation Leads to Accreditation

ACR Seal

The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center has received another three-year accreditation from the American College of Radiology. Designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center has undergone another rigorous accreditation process including on-site evaluations by a team of experts and have once again received this prestigious accreditation.

To date, the Breast Imaging Center has detected almost 560 breast cancers.

The best available tool for breast cancer detection continues to be the mammogram. Discovering cancer in its early stages increases treatment options and allows a much greater chance of survival and positive outcomes.

Eternally Grateful for Exceptional Care
B Larson

As a breast cancer survivor, Barbara Larson is grateful for the care she has received at Henry Mayo's Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. Larson expressed her gratitude recently at the hospital's employee forum in September thanking her caregivers, specifically Holly Ware, Dr.

Barstis, were the best and I knew I was in good hands.

Shortly after diagnosis, I had a mastectomy and 3 of my 12 lymph nodes removed were cancerous.   I then began chemotherapy treatments. I am so thankful that I was seen quickly at the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. The staff was very supportive and helpful during a difficult time. They say that early detection is the key to survival, and I can attest to that; it is. And, every chance I get, I tell friends and acquaintances to get annual mammograms and do self-exams regularly.

My particular journey didn't end with breast cancer, though. Thanks to the diligence of Dr. Senofsky, a heart condition was discovered which required surgery to repair a valve. I also suffered through an appendectomy.

My physicians and the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center can be credited with not only finding, treating, and curing my breast cancer, but also caring enough to go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I remained healthy.

They literally saved my life."
