Earlier this year, Lisa Hoyle was brought into Henry Mayo's emergency department, unconscious and non-responsive from a serious head injury.

 

Lisa was quickly transported by ambulance to Henry Mayo where a trauma team rapidly assembled and made preparations to provide immediate live-saving care upon her arrival.  

 

Following emergency brain surgery, Lisa was transferred to Henry Mayo's intensive care unit. Her condition was very fragile, but Lisa kept fighting and overcame the odds to regain consciousness. 

After some time in the ICU, she was transferred to Henry Mayo's acute rehabilitation unit where she received occupational and speech therapy.

Aetna Accepted At Henry Mayo
In Addition to a Multitide of Other Health Plan Partners
Henry Mayo's pleased to announce that as of August 1, 2011 it has once again become a contracted hospital for all Aetna PPO and HMO members.

This means that Aetna members can now obtain insurance-covered inpatient and outpatient services, including emergency services, at Henry Mayo, their local community hospital.

Henry Mayo Offering Free Flu Shots
Saturday, September 17th 10am - 3pm
Flu Shot

In an effort to keep our community healthy, Henry Mayo will be providing free flu shots for adults 50 years or older or in high risk categories during the SCV Chamber's 27th Community Expo on Saturday, September 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex - 20850 Centre Pointe Parkway.

Flu shots will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, with 300 doses available.  In order to receive a free flu shot, adults must meet the following guidelines:

  • Age 50 years or older
  • Adults age 18 and older with a chronic medical conditions, weakened immune system, or muscle or nerve disorder
  • Adults who live with or care for people at high risk for influenza-related complications
  • Adults who live in nursing homes or other long-term care facilities

condition was very fragile, but Lisa kept fighting and overcame the odds to regain consciousness. After some time in the ICU, she was transferred to Henry Mayo's acute rehabilitation unit where she received occupational and speech therapy.

 

During a recent visit to Henry Mayo, Lisa's husband, Darius, praised Henry Mayo staff. "From start to finish, you taught me a lot about what health care is all about and made me appreciate what you all do," he said. "The doctors, nurses, everyone from the front desk to the operating room were the greatest bunch of people that I never wanted to meet."

 

"Lisa's doing unbelievably awesome," he continued. "And I can't thank everyone enough. It's all so amazing."

 

Lisa also praised the expert Henry Mayo trauma team, "I feel better every day. You guys are on top of the world. Thanks for giving me a second lease on life."

 

Lisa continues to participate in physical therapy every day. And, we are happy to announce that she recently passed another milestone--she was awarded her driver's license and is back on the road!

 

Lisa Hoyle is one of hundreds of patients treated for severe, life-threatening injuries each year by Henry Mayo's Trauma Services team. Designated a Level II Trauma Center in Los Angeles County, and staffed by highly trained specialists, including a trauma surgeon and anesthesiologist, Henry Mayo's trauma team is standing by 24 hours a day, every day to serve the Santa Clarita Valley community and visitors.
