Here are some exciting highlights and updates from the Transportation Authority of Marin's Safe Routes to School program!

And the Green Ways to School Winners are....
 
We are pleased to announced the winners of the first annual Green Ways to School Challenge.  These schools are recognized for outstanding achievement in reducing greenhouse gases by increasing their green trips to school and by registering for SchoolPool.
 
2010 Green Ways to School Awards for highest achievement in the 2009-10 school year:
   - 1st place: Loma Verde $2000
   - 2nd place:Manor and Wade Thomas  $500 each
   - Honorable mention: Coleman; Ross; Laurel Del
 
Program Achievement Award for the highest achievement since joining the program:
   - 1st place:Old Mill $1000
   - 2nd place:Tam Valley $250
   - 3rd place:Brookside Lower $250
   - Honorable mention: Marin Primary and Middle; Lagunitas;
   White Hill Middle

SchoolPool Awards for the highest participation in SchoolPool:
   - 1st place:Brookside Upper and Dixie  $500 each
   - 2nd place:Mary Silveira $250
   - Honorable mention: Edna Maguire
  
SchoolPool Early Bird Challenge!

SchoolPool Marin is offering a $500 cash prize (donated by Kaiser Permanente) to the school with the highest number of SchoolPool trip-matching registrations entered by October 15, 2010 (tallied as a percentage of total student population). If you are already registered for SchoolPool, this will count towards your school's total.  If you registered for the Green Ways to School Challenge last year, we urge you to re-register for a SchoolPool matchlist now.
 
Even if you are already traveling to and from school via a green mode, get to know others  in your neighborhood by walking, bicycling or carpooling together. And you could win a $5 Jamba Juice card!

kids and bike sculptureWednesday, October 6 is the 10th annual International Walk to School Day.  Walk, bike, skateboard, rollerblade, ride a scooter to school.  Join friends and millions of students worldwide by choosing a green way to school.  We have hand fans and zbars donated by Clif Bars for Marin County Schools.   To learn how to get an event going at your school and get incentives contact

Learn to Ride Safely with Your Child

Riding with Youth, sponsored by WalkBikeMarin, offers parents the opportunity to learn how to bicycle safely with your child.  This family activity will teach both you and your child basic rules of the road with an opportunity to practice together.  Class schedule for this fall:
 
  - Sat Sep 11, 10:30am - 1pm, Terra Linda
  - Sat Sep 18, 9:30am - 12pm, Brookside Lower
  - Sat Oct 2, 9:30am - 12pm, Tam Valley

New Video Highlights Marin's Transportation Needs

 
Check out the new video from the Transportation Authority of Marin, "Seniors, Streets & Schools: Transportation Needs in Marin" and see the TAM webside for the latest information as TAM pursues a new revenue source to help fund more crossing guards, school access, safe senior mobility, and neighborhood streets.
 
The Green Ways to School and SchoolPool Marin programs from TAM's Safe Routes to Schools are supported by additional funding from a $175,000 grant from the Marin Community Foundation's Climate Change Initiative and through a partnership with the Marin County Office of Education.
