Here are some exciting highlights and updates from The Safe Routes to School program of the Transportation Authority of Marin
Green Ways to School |
|
Go for the Green Contests
Most schools wrapped up their "Go for the Green" contests and "Teens Go Green" contests on April 9th. Forty schools participated in this year's contests. On St.Patrick's Day students at some schools took Go for the Green seriously by dressing up in green as they took green ways to school (pictured). Reports are starting to come in that 50-70% of the students in some school participated. High results from the contests will help schools' scores for the final Green Ways to School Challenge where the school with the largest increase in green trips will win $2,000. |
Middle School Sculptures Arrive in Schools
White Hill Students created whimsical sculptures made from bike parts as trophies for the middle school "Teens Go Green" contests. Meghan Garfink and Alissa Winkler worked on the sculpture they named "Todd" (pictured). Meghan "thought it was fun to work with everybody using materials we haven't worked with before." Alissa "never thought I could make sculptures out of old bike parts." A big thank you to Lou Goodwin, White Hill team leader for organizing the activity and designing the prototypes.
