 Easing the Tough Conversations
JANUARY, 2010
Happy New Year!  As you ponder any resolutions you may desire to ponder or contemplate as 2010 begins, you might want to take note of a "conflict resolution plan"!  Our e-newsletter also features information about our upcoming Workshop, new training for senior service organizations (on the left column!) and our upcoming blog radio debut! Welcome!

Do You Have A Conflict Resolution Plan?

On the surface, this may sound like a silly question. Do we really need a conflict resolution plan? We tend to think of conflict resolution the same way we think of a plumber or a car mechanic; we wait until we are knee-deep into the problem, typically delaying any action until it is an emergency. The problem with emergencies is that they never happen at a convenient time, they require quick decisions that may not be well thought out, the best person for the job may not be available and they are usually expensive.

People don't like to think about conflict around eldercare issues. It's uncomfortable. It stirs up old family issues and tends to bring out the worst in people. It is easier to put off dealing with conflict until we can't avoid it anymore. The problem with delaying action is that conflict tends to get more intense until it percolates to the surface and has to be addressed.

Join us a we chat on David Solie's  BlogTalk radio show Saturday, January 16, 2010, 10:00 am MST

David Solie MS, PADavid Solie is the author of the landmark book "How to Say it to Seniors: Closing the Communication Gap with our Elders" that has been read and reread by legions of baby boomers searching for a better approach to working with their parents and other older adults.  "This book explores the reasons why communicating with the elderly is sometimes so frustrating and offers strategies and skills for overcoming these difficulties..."

We were invited to speak on David's weekly radio show.  His blog radio shows provide listeners with "new ideas and strategies" for understanding and communicating with aging parents.  Experience has taught him that many listeners will have an "ah ha' moment regarding an older parent or client that will forever change the course of their relationship with this person.

Please feel to contact us if you believe we may be of service to facilitate any elder-related conflict you are aware of and/or to train your staff in conflict management skills.  And, remember that families may be reluctant to sit down with family members to resolve conflict but it is always better to work towards resolve early in the process.  Thank you for your assistance to help families dealing with conflict!

Very truly yours,                                               303/268-2282
