Happy Birthday   ELDEResolutions!
the three of us
This inaugural issue of our eNewsletter marks one year since
we embarked on this new adventure called ELDEResolutions.  The confluence of events that brought John, Debbie, and Ken together in this enterprise is remarkable for its timing and for the wealth of experience that each represent.  As we reflect on the first year, we would like to highlight a few of the key points in our progress and process.

Easing the
tough conversations
February, 2009
Greetings!

We are excited to share our first e-newsletter with you.  We hope you learn something about eldercare dispute resolution.  As always,  please do not hesitate to contact us if we can guide you in any way.
Mediation Morsel

Medition is a voluntary process. Before we can begin, all parties must be identified and willing to sit down at the table together. The voluntary nature of mediation is at the heart of the mediation process.

Another Tough Conversation

The following scenario was adapted from a recent letter to Ask Amy:

The retirement fund of a couple in their mid 70's was significantly impacted by the economic downturn.  They contacted their 3 children and declared that each child should provide $300/month to help them cover expenses.  One son-in-law does not feel obligated to meet this request, though his wife is willing to do whatever her parents ask. The household money was earned by the son-in-law while his wife (the daughter) took care of the couple's two children.

Aging Anecdote
fear of future - older man looking forlorn

According to a Money survey *,

"Seven out of eight people agree
that - when a family goes to divvy up
the belongings of a relative who's
died - there's always one person who
tries to get more than his or her share."

There are remedies to such disagreements, typically requiring some advance planning by the person who owns the "stuff."

Please feel to contact us if you believe we may be of service to facilitate any elder-related conflict you are aware of.  And, remember that it is always better to work towards resolve early in the process.  Thank you!

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time
to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking  how nice
it  is that wrinkles don't hurt.
