What is e-Crime?
Last week, Telemat exhibited at the e-Crime Wales convention in Llandudno. e-Crime is a buzzword that is currently being thrown around the media, but what exactly is e-Crime? Generally e-crime refers to criminal activity where a computer, or computer network, is the source, tool, target or place of a crime. Despite the inevitable references to 'computers' or 'online activity' e-Crime nevertheless encompasses a whole raft of 'traditional' crimes - such as fraud, theft, blackmail, forgery and embezzlement. Due to its nature, e-Crime evolves with technology. As a result of this new threats are emerging with an alarming degree of regularity, but simply maintaining a better appreciation of the risks faced could have a significant effect on your ability to respond to them if the need arises. For further information and examples of e-Crime visit the information section of the e-Crime Wales website. The website also provides information on how to protect yourself against e-Crime. If you would like to arrange a consultation to assist you in evading e-Crime, please call us on 01239 712345 or email us. | |
New Release - Windows 7
Microsofts latest version of Windows - Windows 7, was released last week. Designed to be less resource hungry than Windows Vista, it also features improvements and visual tweaks.
One of the main improvements to enhance security is Bitlocker Drive Encryption which allows you to encrypt not only folders, but the entire drive. BitLocker To Go also allows you to encrypt USB flash drives and external hard drives. Microsoft has redesigned the start menu and taskbar to work more intelligently. Gone are the quick launch icons, to be replaced with taskbar pinning of applications. No longer will the task bar fill up with rectangle boxes of open applications, now the taskbar will group applications and display them as icons, hovering the mouse over gives you previews of all grouped applications. You can also pin programmes and files that you need to access quickly. Microsoft has also made improvements to Aero, with introductions like Aero Peak, which turns all open windows transparent, and Aero Shake where you can click on an open window and with a shake of the mouse all other windows minimize except for the one you clicked on. There are improvements in other parts of Windows, but overall this feels more like what Vista should have been in the first place and not the next generation of the Windows Operating System. For more information and video clips of some of the highlights of Windows 7, visit the Microsoft website.
