More Alfas coming.

Alfa MiToOur first five Alfa's are available for booking and have been flying off the shelves! Well, driving out of  their pods at least.

Some members feel like they have missed out because the Alfas aren't close to them.

Well fret not, we have already placed an order for the next batch! Chances are you'll be getting an Alfa near you very soon. We'll keep you posted.

If you're in Sydney on Saturday 30th of July and you love food, get to the Bankstown Bites Food Festival.

The festival celebrates the amazing culinary diversity found in Bankstown. There'll be food stalls, cooking demonstrations, celebrity chefs, live entertainment and kid's activities.

You can go on an organised food tour; there are 10 to choose from depending on what you fancy - from exploring Bankstown's own Chinatown, to treats from the Middle East, and European delights.

The festival is a free community event and the tours are $5 each per person.

Bankstown is a very well connected public transport hub. Just jump on a train or bus and you'll be there in no time!

Check it out for more info.

Peak car use

You most likely have heard the term 'Peak Oil'; how about Graph'Peak Car Use'?

Apparently we're witnessing the end (almost) of our obsession with the car!

Aussie researchers Peter Newman and Jeff Kenworthy from the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute published a paper last month in the journal World Transport Policy and Practice, called "Peak Car Use: Understanding the Demise of Automobile Dependence".

They point to a number of reports that show that car use in developed countries plateaued around 2005, and since 2007 has been declining.

Newman and Kenworthy identify 6 possible factors causing this change:

  1. Cities hitting expanison limits based on how far most commuters are willing to travel each day,
  2. The growth of public transport,
  3. The reversal of urban sprawl,
  4. The aging of cities,
  5. A growing culture of urbanism, and
  6. The rise of fuel prices.

We reckon it's all pretty exciting stuff. Especially if you're a town planner, a traffic engineer, or work in the carsharing industry!

Check it out.

Tip of the month - Filling up

We're working hard on getting secure fuel cards into our cars.

In the meantime, please pay for the fuel yourself and send us a copy of the receipt with your details and the car details by sending it via either:

  1. Email: fuel@goget.com.au
  2. Fax: (02) 8211 5119, or
  3. MMS: 0427 777 769

We'll deduct the receipt amount from your next bill. Thanks for your patience and we'll give you an update as soon as we can.

GoGet Greeting

FistA lot of members like the idea of a clan greeting. However, many of you felt that Willem-Jan's proposed greeting - banging your right fist on your chest and then pumping it in the air twice - was a little over the top. (Who would have thought GoGetters were such an introverted bunch.)

We have chosen what we think are the top 5 suggestions.

So the 5 finalists in the running to be immortalised by having the 'official' GoGet greeting named after them are:

  1. The Judy - The 'OK' sign one does when scuba diving...putting your thumb and forefinger together and holding the other fingers straight.... as in O, or Go!
  2. The Jill - Simply raise your index finger from the steering wheel in greeting.
  3. The Aaron - A single indicator blink on the same side as the orange mirror.
  4. The Dorian - A "T-Rex" wave, ie as though the wrist is connected to the shoulder with an up and down motion with the hand from the wrist. (In homage to the orange wing mirrors.)
  5. The Gabby - Point at the person and wave with a big grin.

Vote for your favourite.

If you have any feedback or questions about the service please drop us an email or give us call.

Thanks,

Nic and Bruce
