Simple Way to Radically Increase Your Brain Power
Exercise can keep your brain sharp as you age. A new study has shown that a program of exercise can, over the course of a year, increase the size of your hippocampus, a part of the brain key to memory and spatial navigation.
The hippocampus often shrinks in late adulthood, leading to memory impairment.
According to the Los Angeles Times:
"To complete the study, the team recruited 120 older people who didn't exercise regularly. Half were randomly assigned to an aerobic exercise program ... The group doing aerobic exercise had increases in hippocampus volume: up 2.12 percent in the left hippocampus, and 1.97 percent in the right hippocampus."

Greetings!
Experiencing 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47 P.M. (1 of 5)
Japan has experienced a horrendous earthquake and tsunami! To date it is the fifth most violent earthquake in recorded history.
Thousands of people have lost their lives! Families were ripped apart and life as they knew it will NEVER BE THE SAME!
Until 2:46 p.m. when they experienced the earthquake and tsunami, people had plans of what they would do when they left work, where they would go shopping, or dining and so forth.
Some individuals may have anticipated handling business affairs later in the evening that had been delayed due to procrastination.
Orders had been placed to enable businesses to function on the following day and so forth; each of these and other events were proper to be planned in advance.
However, at 2:46 p.m. a moment transpired that CHANGED LIVES FOREVER!
Time had run out for performing or experiencing what had been planned!

Experiencing 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47 P.M. (2 of 5)
No longer were there opportunities to communicate their love and appreciation to family and friends!
No longer was there time to repent and get it "Right with God"!
No longer were there opportunities to make positive changes and to reverse any negative reputations!
LIFE HAD CHANGED FOR EVER! OPPORTUNITIES HAD COME AND PASSED!
Certainly, our prayers and blessings are extended to them!
However, in every situation there is occasion for each of us to learn or to be reminded of what we already know.
We are so very used to experiencing "Business as Usual", with the hours of our days being consumed with familiar and routine actions!
In addition, because we have seen and talked to family and friends on a daily basis, we take for granted that we will be afforded the same opportunity tomorrow, the next day, following week and so on!
So often we forget James 4:15- For that ye [ought] to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
We take for granted that "Business Will be As Usual"!

Experiencing 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47 P.M. (3 of 5)
One of the reminders offered to us from the devastation of Japan is to really and truly, truly and really, maximize each moment that we have to interact with family and friends!
The 2:45p.m of our title reflects our lives as "Usual".
"2:47p.m" represents the emotional and physical realities of what we just experienced, after the devastating experience of 2:46 p.m.!
We are doubtful and question how to move from that life-changing experience and may even begin the dreadful wondering if we will ever be able to go on in life!
Or, if we have departed this earthly life; the welfare of our family and friends who are left behind to deal with whatever we did not finish when we had the opportunity.
What are their memories of us?
Will it be determined that they are saddened by our loss or will they rejoice that we are no longer in their lives!
While, "Thank God", we have not experienced the intensity of Japan's earthquake and tsunami; each of us experiences the 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47p.m of events in our lives on a regular basis!

Experiencing 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47 P.M. (4 OF 5)
The questions we must individually answer are: How sensitive am I to the people and benefits in my life?
Am I maximizing my present 2:45p.m moment so that when the 2:46 p.m., comes and (It Will), the moment when my life changes, never to be as it was; that I won't have regrets of how I lived the 2:45p.m. of my life?
Am I sharing in speech, example and actions of my love and appreciation to God and others for the blessings in my life which they have ushered in?

Am I speaking "Words of Love and Life" to others in hopes of contributing to the wholeness of their lives?
How am I in the 2:47p.m of my life handling the devastation of what I experienced in the 2:46p.m. of my life; whether
it is the death of a loved one,
the consequences which my children experience because of their choices, or
other heart-wrenching experiences?
What have you done today to make you feel proud? ( Click here) |
Experiencing 2:45, 2:46 and 2:47 P.M. (5 of 5) Additional questions are: Am I living in faith and yet trusting God in the midst of the horrible experience? Am I as the unnamed woman (or man) of 2 Kings 4:1 who experienced the death of her long-awaited and greatly beloved son responding by faith "It is Well"? Am I in spite of the experience, remembering and trusting God, my Great God to yet be with me in the midst of the 2:46 and 2:47p.m of my life? Each of us WILL experience devastating life-changing events in life! Let's make sure that we "Maximize the Moment" of 2:45p.m., which will become "The Moment of No More Opportunity in 2:46 p.m."! Blessings to you~

Jesus Is Acquainted With Our Grief

Dr. Nola Veazie
As I watched Dr. Lewis' Sunday message on Youtube, I was struck by what she said regarding our need to move on, even when confronting grief. She spoke about the bereaved family's desire for the world to stop and stand still during their moment of grief; it caused me to reflect on the loss of close family members and the ensuing pain.
Friends when we grieve, we often go through a cycle that may begin with shock and disbelief and conclude with blaming God. It is difficult to see the love of Jesus in such dark times, but the book of Isaiah 53:3 tells us that Jesus was acquainted with grief. Jesus is a merciful and faithful high priest (Heb 2:17) and therefore able to console us in times of sadness.
We go through at least seven stages of grief, beginning with shock and denial and culminating in acceptance and hope; some people, however, get stuck in the middle stages of anger and bargaining and are unable to heal; if you are one of those people, don't hesitate to seek help from a pastor or a counselor. People who remain in an extended period of grief reaction are prone to clinical depression and other mental health problems.
Dr. Nola Veazie is the founder and CEO, of V-Solutions Consulting. She is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC-II), and Continuing Education provider; she has many years of experience as a mental health clinician and trainer.

13 THINGS YOUR BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU
Sources:
Convicted burglars in North Carolina , Oregon , California , and Kentucky ; security consultant Chris McGoey and Richard T. Wright, a criminology professor at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, who interviewed 105 burglars for his book "Burglars on the Job".
1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.
2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.
3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste... and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.
4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it..
5. If it snows while you're out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house.. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.
6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don't let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it's set. That makes it too easy.
7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom - and your jewelry. It's not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.
8. It's raining, you're fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door - understandable. But understand this: I don't take a day off because of bad weather.
9. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.)
10. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.
11. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms.
12. You're right: I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me.
13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. If you're reluctant to leave your TV on while you're out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television.
8 MORE THINGS A BURGLAR WON'T TELL YOU: |
1. Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and carry a rake. I do my best to never, ever look like a crook. 2. The two things I hate most: loud dogs and nosy neighbors. 3. I'll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your neighbor hears one loud sound, he'll stop what he's doing and wait to hear it again. If he doesn't hear it again, he'll just go back to what he was doing. It's human nature.
4. I'm not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy alarm system and leave your house without setting it? 5. I love looking in your windows. I'm looking for signs that you're home, and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I'd like. I'll drive or walk through your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my targets. 6. Avoid announcing your vacation on your Facebook page. It's easier than you think to look up your address. 7. To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to let in a little fresh air. To me, it's an invitation. 8. If you don't answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in. |
