 Seek Godly Wisdom!!

As maturing Children of God, we learn the necessity of seeking godly wisdom!

Each of us can attest to consequences for making decisions void of seeking God for "His" wisdom affecting our daily lives!

bondage handcuffed

How many times have we been convinced that we knew precisely who or what we wanted or what was best for our lives only to discover that our decisions did not yield the desired results!

Therefore, our continuous focus must be to seek godly wisdom for making decisions.

Bible

This is especially true when our emotions are involved for we are more inclined to make decisions based on our feelings rather than analyzing all factors involved.

Yes, there are times when decisions of the heart should be followed and facts overruled, but the opposite is also true.

This reality alone emphasizes the need for us to seek the "Wisdom of God" so that we may walk in wisdom and make proper decisions.

Seek Godly Wisdom!!

We definitely need godly wisdom in determining what our behavior should be in various situations i.e.;  when we should display tough love so we won't become enablers instead  of nurturers,

considering who will be our life-long mate, determining God's will for our lives, when and if we should make certain changes in our lives, etc.

Making Decisions

Some people think that real Christian maturity is when we come to a place where we are somewhat "independent" of God and have developed "our wisdom" to the degree that we don't need to rely on God as much day to day and moment by moment.

This is not Christian maturity at all! God deliberately allows daily experiences in our lives so that we are reminded that we must totally depend on His grace and wisdom to make correct decisions.

 making decisions 2

When our desire is to please the Lord; we will even fore-go "our rights" in exchange for walking in the "Wisdom of God".

Our seeking of godly wisdom will also include praying for the strength and courage to obey the direction God gives us.

  Seek Godly Wisdom!!

The Bible has much to say regarding wisdom.

Proverbs 1:2- The purpose of these proverbs is to teach people wisdom and discipline, and to help them understand wise sayings.

3-Through these proverbs, people will receive instruction in discipline, good conduct, and doing what is right, just, and fair.

4-These proverbs will make the simpleminded clever. They will give knowledge and purpose to young people.

5a-Let those who are wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser.

   listening and learning

Chapter 2:2-Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.

3-Cry out for insight and understanding.

4-Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure.

6-For the LORD grants wisdom! From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

7-He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity.

8-He guards the paths of justice and protects those who are faithful to Him.

9-Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will know how to find the right course of action every time.

10-For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy.

11-Wise planning will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.

Chapter 3:5-Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

6-Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths.

7-Don't be impressed with your own wisdom.

13-Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding.

16-She offers you life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left.

17-She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying.

21 (KJV)-My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion
22-for they fill you with life and bring you honor and respect.

23-They keep you safe on your way and keep your feet from stumbling.

24-You can lie down without fear and enjoy pleasant dreams.

26-for the LORD is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.

Chapter 4:5-Get wisdom, get understanding: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

6-Don't turn your back on wisdom, for she will protect you. Love her, and she will guard you.

7-Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

8-Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

Seek Godly Wisdom!!

How then do we seek and obtain godly wisdom?

question man thinking

James 1:5-If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

NLT-If you need wisdom--if you want to know what God wants you to do--ask Him, and He will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking.

6a-But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to answer...

Therefore "Family" let's seek God for His wisdom and then walk therein!

8 Must Do-s to Stay Out of Debt & Manage Money

debt

These tips will help adults make positive choices to avoid excessive debt and build a strong credit profile. (ŠiStockphoto.com/Quavondo Nguyen)

By Andrew Housser

April is Financial Literacy Month, and fittingly, in just a few weeks, thousands of students will graduate from high school and college. Moving on to work or higher education in the tightest economic climate our nation has experienced in many decades, these young people and their employed peers need to understand how to manage money.

These tips will help young adults make positive choices to avoid excessive debt and build a strong credit profile.

1) Learn to create and use a simple budget

It's not exciting or sexy, but it is the No. 1 tool to manage spending and control debt. No matter how much or how little income you have -- and whether you earn it or receive it from your parents for the school year -- get in the habit of budgeting, using software, a spreadsheet, or a simple paper and pencil.
  1. Total all your incoming money, even if it is a fixed amount you receive from your parents. Categorize spending as fixed expenses (like rent), variable "must buy" expenses (food, gas, medicine, books, supplies), savings and spending money. The total is your cost of living.

  2. Subtract expenses from income. If that number is negative, take a hard look at your budget. You must either increase your income or reduce your expenses, no matter how hard that is.

  3. At the first of the month, map out how you will spend your money in the coming month. That is a budget.
2) Live within your means

Borrowing to pay for an education can be considered an investment in the future. But do not go further into debt to fund your lifestyle. Plenty of people who have the latest fashions and tech toys, or drive the newest cars, do so under a tremendous debt burden. Staying out of debt is immensely more satisfying in the long run.

3) Get into a savings habit

Commit to yourself that you will deposit 10 percent of any paycheck -- no matter how small -- directly into a savings or money market account. That includes any money received from parents. The goal should be to accumulate enough funds to cover expenses for three to six months in case of an emergency. The key: Establish a percentage you can stick to, and be consistent.

4) Pay bills on time

Open every bill as soon as it arrives. Pay immediately or create a simple system to make sure you pay on time, whether that involves a folder on your desk or an online calendar. Simplify the process by signing up for online bill payments that can be scheduled so you never forget. Just make sure funds are available in your account on the bill due date. In the process, you'll be building a good credit score while also avoiding late payment fees and penalty interest rates.
5) Start saying "no"

You will be deluged with credit card offers throughout your life. While most adults can use one credit card for personal business, multiple cards will not lead to a better financial future. Saying "no, thanks" and learning to shred unsolicited credit card offers must become standard behavior.

6) Manage a credit or debit card

To manage personal business, most adults need that one credit card -- if and only if they can handle it responsibly and charge only what they can pay off in full each month. With the passage this year of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure (CARD) Act, credit card lenders can no longer solicit students in person and on campus to open credit cards. Credit card companies can issue cards to applicants under age 21 only with an adult co-signer or proof of adequate income. Consider complying with these rules to obtain one credit card IF you can learn to use it responsibly.

7) Pay credit cards in full

Paying the full balance every month will help avoid finance charges, build a good credit score and stay out of debt. Paying less than full payment each month begins a cycle of fees that is difficult to end. In addition, paying less than the full amount means that the original purchase will end up costly significantly more than its purchase price. For example, if you make a $1,000 purchase, and make only the minimum monthly payment (assume the higher of 3 percent or $10), on a card with 19 percent APR, the total paid on the $1,000 debt will be $2,735 over almost 15 years. New credit card statements include this information. Read the statement carefully to learn how your actions will impact your debt.

8) Build and manage your credit score

A credit score can affect your ability to borrow money as well as the interest rate you will pay. Credit scores also can affect the ability to rent an apartment, lease a car or even get a job. Check your credit report once each year for free at www.annualcreditreport.com. If you find any inaccuracies, correct them right away.

Young people are at a critical time in their lives, when their finances are a clean slate. Learning how to manage money responsibly will make the difference between a healthy financial path and a life of money struggles.
