"What About" those times when we are asked for money by our children whether young or old and we had it to give to them? Don't forget being able to read, to go and visit others in the hospital, the red light which seemingly delayed us, only to discover it prevented an accident. These are all blessings! Being able to scratch an itch, a house to clean up, ears to hear "noises", eyes to see and a nose to smell! So many times we take the abilities of our lives for granted and mumble and complain about what we don't have. This is done when we consciously or non-consciously compare what we have to the more of others. But one way to remind ourselves to be thankful and humble is to reflect on what we have that others don't possess. Unfortunately, some people become high and lifted up because they have been blessed with certain blessings which others might not have; obviously forgetting that it is only the grace and mercy of God which has blessed them. Also forgetting that the same God who blessed them is the same God who richly and more than over blesses those who might not have what they enjoy.

We must not take for granted the seemingly smallest of God's and other people's blessings toward us because really and truly no blessing is a small thing when it adds to the comfort of our lives. We must not take our life's comforts for granted; for then we stop being appreciative and saying thank you to God and man; we, stop seeing ourselves as being as blessed as we are and begin to "expect" certain niceties as though it is "owed" us. Oh yes, a warning; don't even get into that exchange with God expecting certain blessings because of how much we "serve", "love" and "give" to Him as though we are caught up on thanking Him for what He has already done in our lives, because we are not! We are still at the point of rendering thank offerings for not being aborted in the womb, so don't go "there". Let's take time to note the many smaller blessings and say to God and man "Thank You" for it will cultivate a Spirit of Thanksgiving in our hearts which should be the Spirit in us all anyway.
