The Asian Institute is honored to bring in from China Dr. Qiwei, professor, TCM physician, master of orthopedics and doctor of tuina from the Changchun University of Chinese Medicine. This workshop is designed for individuals who already have an understanding of the basic techniques of tuina. Dr. Qiwei will lecture, demonstrate and oversee specific techniques designed to assist the body in healing a variety of upper body disorders. With his understanding of orthopedics as a diagnostic tool, this course is designed to further practitioners' TCM differential diagnostic and palpation skills as well as their understanding of manipulative therapeutics utilizing tuina as the basic modality.
Upon completion of this workshop, practitioners can expect to:
- Understand the basic theory of soft tissue and neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) disorders within the TCM framework.
- Understand refined differential diagnosis of NMS and soft tissue pain of the back, neck and shoulder.
- Be able to palpate the channels in order to perceive subtle differences informing the individual of specific soft tissue and NMS conditions.
- Know specific tuina techniques to treat conditions of the back, neck and shoulder.
- Develop a treatment strategy for both acute and chronic NMS and soft tissue conditions.
