Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture Workshop

Saturday and Sunday

July 9 & 10, 2011

8:30 am - 5:30 p.m.

$250.00

15 CEUs

Instructor: Debra Manning, RN, L.Ac. Dipl. OM

Acupuncture facial rejuvenation uses traditional Chinese medicine to treat the skin from the inside out. Based on the fundamental concept of balancing Qi, Yin and Yang in the body, facial acupuncture uses the concept of TCM to reach aesthetic goals. The basics of acupuncture treatment involve the insertion of small needles to stimulate circulation, plump fine facial wrinkles and boost collagen production. The resulting "face lift" makes this procedure an alternative to the traditional face lift and not simply replacement for spa facials.

In this course, you will learn how to customize facial rejuvenation treatments utilizing a TCM approach; how to assess which meridians are involved in the various ways that individuals physically manifest the aging process; point selection and technique for conditions such as acne, dry skin, age spots, sagging skin, wrinkles, scars, double chins, as well as bags and dark circles under the eyes.

AIMS Honors Doug Johnson, M.Ac., L.Ac.
Faculty Member & Clinic Dean

Doug Johnson

Concepts of healing and health have always been of interest to Doug and led him into the practice of counseling. His practice of health care is based on the belief that health is not a state to be achieved but a way of experiencing and being. An attraction and fascination with the unique perspectives of Chinese philosophers and artists led him to the study of tai qi, qi gong, and acupuncture. He has practiced Classical Five Element Acupuncture since 1986. In dancing through the garden of form and energetics, his steps have also been led by the Alexander Technique, Bikram yoga, Feldenkrais, Flower Essences, Pilates, Plant Spirit Medicine, Vipassana and Zazen.

These steps are now being shaped and expanded by the choreography of Heart Rhythm Meditation. His perceptions and expressions of them have been enhanced and expanded. The depth and width of this work captures and challenges his curiosity. His teaching grows out of his delight in seeing how Heart Rhythm Meditation changes those whose lives it touches.

The Asian Institute is very pleased to have Doug as one of our core faculty members and as our Clinic Dean.

Thank you, Doug!

Tailored Program for Acupuncturists to Help their Patients Quit Tobacco

Project ReachUA Logo

The University of Arizona Department of Family and Community Medicine will be conducting the second wave of a research study called Project Reach, funded by the National Cancer Institute.  Project Reach will collaborate with acupuncturists to

provide the skills and tools to support an integrative approach to helping patients quit tobacco, which can strengthen established practices for tobacco cessation. This holistic approach to tobacco cessation includes an educational training followed by in-office practice support. The Project Reach training will help practitioners feel more comfortable and confident in talking with patients about tobacco use and helping them quit. The training not only teaches ways to start helping conversations, it also helps to overcome any barriers to having the discussion. Project Reach will evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of this tobacco cessation training among practitioners, and their patients.  It is a landmark study, one of the first of its kind.

If you are interested in strengthening your skills in helping patients quit tobacco, receiving training with continuing education units, free of charge, contact Project Reach at 520-626-9895 or reach@email.arizona.edu for more information.
