Background:
The State Wildlife Grants (SWG) Program provides federal money to every state and territory for cost-effective conservation aimed at preventing wildlife from becoming endangered. Because this funding is annually appropriated, the Teaming With Wildlife Coalition must work each year to ensure that it remains in the budget. Learn more.

The State Wildlife Grants program took a big hit in the recently passed Continuing Resolution and we need to show Congress how much we all care and need this funding.

You can help!

Several congressional champions are circulating letters seeking robust funding in FY12 for this program. Please call or e-mail your Congress members today and urge them to sign on to the State Wildlife Grants "Dear Colleague" letter (house letter). A simple message asking them to sign on to the letter is all that is needed.

Missouri has a strong history of bipartisan support for the State Wildlife Grants Program. We give a huge thanks to those that have already signed the "Dear Colleague" letter in support of funding for State Wildlife Grants in Fiscal Year 2012: Senator McCaskill, Congressman Carnahan, Congressman Cleaver, and Congressman Clay. In addition, Congresswoman Emerson has agreed to send a Programmatic Request in support of State Wildlife Grants. We are disappointed that Congressman Graves and Congressman Long have decided not to sign the letter.

The deadline for members of Congress to sign on to the important "Dear Colleague" letter in support of State Wildlife Grant funding is Monday, May 16.
