TWW Fly-in DaysSupport Teaming With Wildlife - Contact your Representative and Senators today!

We ask you to support additional conservation funding by contacting your legislators on two matters:

1) Call your Representative and urge him or her to sign the "Dear Colleague" letter being circulated by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ). The letter, addressed to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Interior Appropriations Committees, supports a funding level of $85 million for the State Wildlife Grants Program in Fiscal Year 2010.

So far, Congressman Ike Skelton and Congressman Sam Graves have signed on to the letter. We also expect Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson to submit a programatic request in support of State Wildlife Grants. If you are in their districts, please call or e-mail to thank them for supporting funding for the State Wildlife Grants program. We greatly appreciate their support!

If you are in any other district, please call or e-mail the appropriate staff people listed below. It is important that they sign on to the letter by April 1!

 2) Call your Senators and encourage them to co-sponsor the newly introduced Teaming With Wildlife Act!

This is the bill the Teaming With Wildlife Coalition has been waiting for! The Teaming With Wildlife Act would provide $350M annually for six years through the Wildlife Conservation and Restoration Program to provide funding for fish, forest and wildlife conservation, education and outdoor recreation. If passed, these funds would replace the State Wildlife Grants program and bring significantly more funds to Missouri ($6.8 million each year!).

Contact Senator Bond and Senator McCaskill, tell them you are a constituent and ask that they co-sponsor Senate Bill 665 - the Teaming With Wildlife Act.

 Missouri Forest Stakeholders Summits

Missouri's forests are at a crossroads!  Missouri's trees and forests have the potential to play a pivotal role in many of the serious challenges society is currently facing - energy demand, water quality and climate change just to name a few.  At the same time, Missouri's forests are under serious threat from a number of influencers, and available resources for addressing these threats are limited.  In order to determine the best path forward, the Missouri Department of Conservation is currently embarking on an effort called the Missouri Forest Resource Assessment and Strategy (FRAS).  Once completed, FRAS will include a comprehensive assessment of the key threats and opportunities facing Missouri's urban and rural forest resources, a vision for desired future forest conditions, and a road map for achieving this vision.  The success of this effort depends on the involvement and collaboration of people like you.

This May and June, we will be holding workshops throughout Missouri.  The purpose of these meetings will be to present our Draft Forest Assessment, to gather feedback from stakeholders, and to begin collaborating on the preparation and implementation of a Forest Resource Strategy.  Please invite friends, acquaintances, or organization members you think would be interested, gather your ideas and join us. Click
