Raising Grace Ranch

The farm dream continues to unfold in miraculous ways. It seems as though everything we need is provided through the grace that brought us here in the first place. It is the perfect place to be on this sunny Thanksgiving day.  I am grateful to God and to all the people he sends to encourage me. You are a blessing in my life.

In response to your questions, I want to share stories and photos with you in this newsletter space. I hope you enjoy the down-to-earth warmth and reality of the animals as much as I do. There is nothing like petting a pig to help ground me in the here and now -- the only place where true peace exists.

Our newest creatures are two Dorset lambs who will become the mamas of our flock. They are very alert and curious and love to prance like Santa's reindeer!

Grateful Greetings,

I am moved to create and send this first issue of The Grace Place in the early hours of Thanksgiving morning. As I write, the rising sun turns the corn in the field into a sea of gold and its glow is carried on the frosty mist. The stillness is breathtaking ... my favorite time of day.

I wish you the warmest of hearts today. May you have eyes to see all of your blessings.

Warmly,
Sharon

love cloudRelationships are a constant theme in my own life and in my work with clients. That's because creating and maintaining healthy relationships is one of the hardest things to do. Why is that? Why doesn't something that is such a primal need for humans come more naturally? How do things get so screwed up?

The answer is simple, but not easy: We cannot honestly and lovingly connect with someone else until we honestly and lovingly connect with ourselves. Our egos form a very effective barrier that deludes and separates us from the love within as well as from the love of others. The ego would rather be safe than loved.

My challenge to you is to set the ego aside for a while today. Move from your head (with all of its ego-generated justifications and judgments) to your heart for just 15 minutes. Notice the softening in your breathing as the defensive tension leaves. See with your "heart eyes" for a few moments. Take the risk of dropping your protections and just Be. Listen to the wisdom of your heart. Surrender to its commanding power.

Notice how much better that feels than the struggle to control the things you cannot. When you are in this space you are connected to your best self. Love from here more often and your relationships will flow with greater ease and grace. Try it. I dare you!
Echoes: Reminders of past learnings
Cozy PigsThis section will include a brief reminder to clients and students who may have forgotten about a technique that worked for them. Changing habits of thought and feeling takes time and repetition. Be gentle with yourself if you've forgotten. And now consider yourself nagged!

Let's revisit the idea that you can use your emotions as guideposts to illuminate your path. If you are feeling bad, you will attract more bad. If you are feeling good, you will attract more good. You can use this knowledge to make decisions -- if a certain choice makes you feel more peaceful, choose it!

Awareness is the key. How are you feeling today on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being joyous, creative, and free)? What tools can you use to feel better? Take a walk in nature, indulge in a nice stretch, do something nice for someone else, play with a pet or a child, take a sudsy bath ... these are just a few ideas for bringing more joy into your heart.

Remember: As you take responsibility for your feelings, you bring light to a planet that desperately needs your glow.
